HCMC hotel and agent recs?

greetings,

has anyone had experience with either Spring Hotel or the Riverside Hotel (NOT the Marriott Rennaisance Riverside) in HCMC? I've seen very few reviews, and would be grateful for any feedback, or other hotel suggestions.

Also, while in HCMC, I would like to book a few days' long trip to Mekong Delta. Can anyone recommend a good and decent travel booking service there?

Many thanks, Ellen

I do not know the hotels you mentioned, but having been in Saigon 3 times at these hotels-Majestic, Grand, and Asian Hotels all are good. Not sure what price range you are looking for. Majestic $70.00, Grand $55 Asian $30-40 Rex have not stayed there, but been in their hotel is $70. My favorites are the Majestic and Grand.
An excellent guide who we have used 2 times is Tri who works some on his own,but also with Indo-China Services. Twice we have been with him down to the Mekong Delta. Last trip he took us to his Mother's house for lunch which was a special treat. I will send you his email address if you email me at

Thanks for the reply. I'm looking in the around $30/night range. We don't need fancy, just decent location, clean, and hot & cold running water.

I had considered the Asian, it's recommended in both LP and Rough Guide, but somewhere I read a fairly mediocre review of it, and thought I'd pass to see if I could find something better.

I'm going to email you about your guide. He sounds great. (There's nothing like a guide that lets you into his/her life. We had one like that on our two visits to Trinidad.)

Thanks again. See you on email soon!
happy trials, Ellen

Check out HCMC hotels on www.vietnamstay.com-they are wonderful! We stayed Prince Hotel opp Tax Dept store right in the centre of town. I believe we paid around US35 for a double in Dec 2003. In July we stayed Majestic for US55 on directrooms.com-good luck and have a safe & happy trip.

Thanks, all. I am using Vietnamstay.com for a hotel in Hanoi, the Win, about which I've read great things.

On another travel forum, someone wrote about being leery re vietnamstay.com. It's good to know that they are great and reputable.

again, thanks.
