Goa to Hampi day trip

Hello again, we would like to see Hampi while in the Goa area. Can this be done as a day trip and how can I get out and back? Bus, car and driver?
Thanks,
Sunshine17

Where in Goa? It's a state, not a town.

In any case, not if you want to see much. There and back by car will take all day. Travel by train would give you a couple of hours but you'd have to take the night train back.

Have you read any guidebooks? If not, now would be a good time.

Absolutely not. It takes too long to get there so you won't see a thing in Hampi.

And I wouldn't be too upset about missing it. Many of the ruins are very ruinous, although the Golden Chariot is impressive. It was big on the backpacker circuit because of the drug scene, but when I was there a few years back they had cleaned things up a lot. It was very hot when I was there, and that was December....

I really enjoyed our time in Hampi, although we visited mamalapurum later in the same trip (near chenai) and it reminded me a bit of the Hampi ruins. I am a big fan of the Tamil Nadu region of India and highly recommend visiting the amazing temples there.

Agree about Tamil Nadu, but Hampi is a hassle to get to and I'm not convinced it's worth it. Too many other options!

Even though a cousin of mine did a bus trip there it was a long one. My research says you need to stay at least two days as it is hot and the hotels are far from the ruins. It is a trek to get to them and you will have to walk some distance, so you would need to get there early morning before the heat sets in or leave it till the late evening, although I think there is a shut down time, so you will need to be aware of that. The train journey from Panjim to Hampi goes past some great waterfalls, provided youa re on the right side of the train and it has been raining.
