Fastest way to get to DMK from BKK
Hi I am reaching to BKK on 7th Nov by 4:10 AM, and then I have a connecting flight to Phuket at 8:45 am but that is not from BKK, rather from DMK (Don Muang). As I found this takes around an hour to get there from BKK.
I am planning to take on-arrival visa. Would anyone please explain, what should be my moves so that I am successfully catch the Phuket flight from DMK. I mean getting the visa, then the mode of transit, etc.

On what country's passport do you travel? For travelers from the US, Canada and Western Europe you don't get a visa on arrival, but get visa-free entry. If you have to get a visa, that may take a little longer, I don't know. But going through immigration for visa-free entry is pretty fast, though sometimes the immigration lines are long.
There are shuttle buses that run between the two airports. But if I wanted to make sure I made and it there in time, I'd opt for a taxi. Just follow the signs to the taxi rank, and the attendant there will ask where you want to go and put you in a taxi. Make sure the driver uses the meter.

Thanks for all your replies. I have read that there are many taxi scams; so please suggest about any specific type / brand of taxis like pre paid or uber or some specific company. Also any idea about the estimated cost?

From BKK there is a taxi rank. The attendant there should be able to give you an estimated taxi fare. Like I said earlier, the important thing is to make sure the driver turns on the meter. Usually, they will turn it on right away but if not point to the meter and say "meter." If a driver refuses to use the meter get out. That said, in 30 years of traveling to Bangkok, I've only had to get out of a taxi once because the driver didn't want to use the meter.
I have not done the ride between BKK and DMK, so I'm not sure if the expressway is involved. But if it is, there will be tolls. The correct answer to whether you want the driver to use the expressway is "yes" and the tolls will be something like 70 baht, which you will be asked for in the car. Note that there is a 50 baht surcharge for taxis from BKK.
The estimated taxi fare for this ride is 250 - 300 Baht. If traffic is bad, it will be more, but at that hour of the morning, it should be no problem.
No tipping is required, but I usually just round up the fare to the nearest 20 baht.

When you come out to the public taxi stand, walk up to the many desks and tell the person (usually a lady) your destination (Don Muang airport). They will write up a slip - hand one part of the slip to the driver and 1 part to you (your receipt). On the slip there is info about how to make a complaint if the service is not up to standard.
When you get in the driver will turn the meter on - if not, just say 'meter on'. Taxi scams almost never happens from the airport.
BTW - make sure you have some small bills to pay the toll and taxi. They don't carry large amount of change. so don't pull out a 1000 baht note. Get some 100 baht notes before you leave the airport/home.

Thanks to your detailed replies. One more question. I'll be travelling with my wife and my 5 year old son. I'm planning for Phi Phi tour one day and Tritrang beach another day. Can i visit Bangla road too with my family?
