Delhi - Taj Mahal Tour Guide/Group?

I want to fly into Delhi and am looking for a tour guide or group who I can then go down to Agra with for a 1 or 2 night tour of the Taj Mahal. I am also open to a longer trip that will include the Golden Triangle. However, I am having trouble finding a tour group--correction, I am finding lots but only via the internet and not through reccomendations or guide book suggestions. I obviously only want to give my money to a tour guide or group who I trust. Any suggestions?

Look at the recent thread titled "India/ Rajastan Jan/Feb 2010 Nagaur Festival".

Some Indian tour operaters have posted their contact info there. Other posters have said they have used RajuIndia and V.P. Singh. Search here on the Asia Forum and you will find postings by both the tour operators and those who have used them.

Any particular reason you want a tour group to Agra? There are very good express trains you can take between Delhi and Agra (see http://www.seat61.com/India.htm and http://www.indianrail.gov.in/). I wouldn't want a guide for the Taj, there's plenty of info around to read, and I think a guide would get in the way of the experience. Since there is supposed to be no advertising on this site, I would avoid any guides posting their contact info here, but if you read some of the trip reports (use the new search facility for India and trip report) you'll get the opinions of people who have used travel agencies in India.

I agree with Thursday. The guides who post here are in violation of the Fodor's rules, yet continue to post here, and to post bogus recommendations from 'one-shot' posters.

If you want someone to take you to Agra from Delhi, I have a very safe and honest driver that I highly recommend. Rhkkmk, who also posts here often first used this guy's cousin, and thought he was also wonderful, but the cousin doesn't seem to be driving these days. Both Bob and I have posted so many times on Fodor's that I think you can trust we're not shills for a tour company

My driver is Narender, and his email is Anoophindustani@ yahoo.com.

He is not a guide, but can arrange to have one meet you in Agra to accompany you into the Taj, fort, etc. If you don't want a guide, Narender will take you to all the must see spots (or follow your itinerary, if you have your own) and he'll wait outside. Tell him up front as the price will be different with a guide. He has a nice mini-van and I think up to 4 people cost the same price. He does the whole Golden Triangle trip too. I know he can book hotels for you, but I don't know if he's good at that as I always do it myself on-line.

I've also hired Narender by the day in Delhi to take me sightseeing and shopping. He is very good at figuring a route that will waste the least amount of our time in traffic.

He isn't the cheapest or the most expensive, but is reasonable and worth every Rupee. He's very reliable, a safe driver and kind. Tell him Lucy from Hawaii says hello!

Lcuy is right. Hey Lcuy.
I gave Bob (rhkkmk) the referral to Anoop and I believe Narender is his cousin. Anoop no longer drives. Both Bob and I also used castle and king in delhi for our entire trip. So if you want they can arrange everything for you from hotel to transport to guides and you can use as much or as little as you want of their services. I usually arrange almost all of my trips completely on my own but in India I wanted a bit more sense of ease and comfort. Arvind (Castle & King)completely personalized the trip for us. His email: [email protected]
Enjoy!

Hi Paulo! So you are the one who originally found them! Thank you...

I think Nareneder said that Anoop moved up to Punjab to work there. Even Narender was thinking about moving elsewhere to work. He has two little boys, and wants to be able to have them attend private school.

I heard Anoop moved to Dubai or someplace like that. Crazy.
