I have also in mind Royal Peninsula and Yaang Come Village (although this one is a bit off our budget).
I have been told that Tamarind Village is fully booked by the time I will be in Chiang Mai (and we are going to be 6 people, so I don't think it is worth to try), so I am looking for alternative choices.
Any other idea?

I have read very good things about Baan Orapin and have checked their website, but I understand it hasn't got a pool... and at least three people of "my group" (family group, in fact) want to stay at a place with a pool.
Thanks to both

Maybe you can do a few days in a Chiang Mai downtown hotel, like D2 (heard good messages about that one) for two days visiting temples and markets. And for exploring the nature-things like elephants, waterfalls, mountainbiking, rafting etc. and very nice pool-relaxing (fabulous views and good food): try the baan rai lanna resort (www.baanrailanna.com, 45 minutes drive north of chiang mai (room: 2000 bath a night, very good value for money). Been there three weeks ago, nicest experience we had at our thailand trip! You can arange transport with the english owner of the resort.

I am afraid that D2 is beyond our budget (I have shopped around and haven't found anything under 94 euros). In fact, even Yaang Come is probably too expensive...
Baan Rai Lanna looks superb, but for our first stay at Chiang Mai we prefer to be closer to the city. But what a relaxing and beautiful place!
I have seen interesting prices for Karinthip Village. Any feedback about this place?
Thanks a lot.

I stayed at Central D last year in the Dynasty level. It is a very decent hotel and the Dynasty level had a fairly large room and 1 hour of internet service a day. Breakfast is decent and massages are excellent. There is a slight problem with the elevators being slow and sometimes broken. I found this hotel an excellent location and a good bargain.

I stayed (on a tour) at the Amity Green Hills Hotel. The staff was superb, they have a shuttle into the main part of town and if you don't want to take the shuttle back (may be too early to return) you can take a taxi or tuk-tuk (very cheap). It's a lovely hotel. The rooms are large, the buffet is huge and the ala carte menu is great. Frankly, I would stay here again on my own. Yes, you will be with a few tour groups, but so what? You're not going to be sitting around the hotel much. There is a pool. It's no big deal not to be able to walk into town. I don't know the price but I'll bet it's reasonable. Check it out on the web.

If you do not need to stay near the night market then you might look ar the Empress or the Rydges Amora Tapae both good mid-range hotels. With so many choices in the mid range you should not have to pay more than $50 net for a deluxe room.

Thanks to both... I'll check the Amity, I haven't heard about.
Personally, I don't feel attracted by The Empress, but perhaps Rydges Amora could do.
Fodorites... you are really kind
