You'd certainly have to change terminals - domestic to international. The terminals are about one-mile apart, but there is an internal hallway (no moving sidewalks) one level above baggage claim, fully air conditioned, also some up/down elevators. However, if I recall, the signage isn't the best as we had to ask for directions often. There is also a shuttle bus between the two terminals, but don't know how often it operates.

We arrived to BKK from HKG *International terminal ) and connected to CNX (Domestic). It was the same terminal, where you check in in the gate. And then from the Gate they take passengers in the bus to another terminal.
I do not think you need to look for the bus to get another terminal. just find your flight and gate. The staff in terminal weas helpful.
Do you check your bags through? That was impressive for us that in Asia you can check bags through with different airlines.
So the shuttle

Thanks sandi and emtravel. I booked two tickets (against my own advice which would be to try to book them together).
First, the return from Chiang Mai arrives BKK at 3:15 on Thai. Second departing BKK for Siem Reap at 6PM on Bangkok Air. bangkokair.com said to allow 2 hours for connection time, so I padded it even more to allow for getting lost during the change of termninals.

you should be fine time wise....i have never seen the bus to connect you...one mile is too far for the distance, but it is quite a walk, but doable...the bus would be perfect...which airline is going to offer the bus?? do you have to collect your luggage too??
i think your time will be just fine as the local thai flights are quite timely and usually a tad early...bkk air is very punctual....you will be in the air at take off time...

With more then two hours you will have sufficient time to make the change. We did the walk returning from Phuket into BKK, and though our next flight wasn't till the next morning, we had to get to the International Terminal to handle something for the following morning and didn't want to have to leave it till "00-dark-30" It was only when we finally arrived at the Int'l terminal that we were advised that there is an airport shuttle bus that we could have taken, not run by a particular airline.
mrwunrfl - so if you find the bus, take it, if not and with sufficient time, you can do the walk. As a poster mentioned in thread above "info you should know about Siem Reap (or Angkor)" take note re visa fees, departure fees, visa application, have USD in small denominations, etc. And do be prepared for he heat and humidity. We often changed our clothing between morning and afternoon sightseeing as everything was soaking wet down to our "wears" (and even in a 5* hotel, it took more than a day to dry; we did have the fabric that keeps the water away from your body) - have extra t-shirts, at least. Enjoy your holiday, Angkor and the surrouds are amazing.

No question, all prefer US$ in Cambodia. I took 100 brand new $1 bills as well as 5, 10s and 20s (20s for our driver). While you'll get a few riel in change, I donated all of them at the various temples or gave them to beggars.
