best dining in Kyoto

Hi, we are planning to go to Kyoto from Fukuoka in sept for a 1 -2 night stay. Can anyone advise which is the best good and cheap hotel near Train station and eating outlets.

I would like to know which is the best transport to use from Fukuoka to Kyoto? Is it cheaper to buy JR Pass? What is the minimum cost for the JR pass package?

How to buy pre-paid SIM card to use in Japan before arrival.

The Kyoto train station is an eating mecca in its own right. There are literally hundreds of eating venues inside from kiosks to full service dining and the attached malls and underground malls only add to your choices.

You would just buy a ticket for 15,000 to 16,000 JPY to get from Hakata (Fukuoka) to Kyoto. The rail pass costs about 29,000 for 7-days. There are a couple of APA hotels near Kyoto station. APA is a chain of hotels that are good enough for the low price.

Agree with Hawaiian traveller - Kyoto station is indeed a mecca for everything. There is an Isetan with plenty food options from tempura, Kyoto tofu-based meals, and a ramen noodles floor. Plus if you are willing to explore, there are a few local food places around the area.

We stayed at the Granvia for a few days which is a fantastic location and a great service hotel. I think you might get good and reasonable rates for September.

There's a branch of Katsukura in Kyoto station, this is the best katsu we've had in Japan so far. It beats Maisen and the various other places we've tried. We've not yet been to Butagami in Tokyo though, which is very highly rated. But Katsukura is super. BTW the original branch is in the shopping area near to Nishiki market, a charming space and great katsu, of course.
