Bali - best time of the year

hy, just a quick info - on what time of the year would be the best to travel to bali. We want to make a trip around the island, go scubadiving, and laze around the beach. Any information on where to stay? I heard there can be big waves at some beaches on Bali. Thanks for any info

Hi Silvia1808,

We went to Bali in June 06 and we were told the best time to go to Bali is between April/May - round about October. Our driver specifically suggested September as the best time to come to Bali. Our winter is their rainy season.

We stayed in Nusa Dua for 3 nights and the sea was very calm there, not sure about other places though. We then moved to Ubud area and spent the rest of our time there. I thoroughly recomend you go there as it is the real Bali so picturesque and tranquil, you'll enjoy it.

For full review please see my post on Trip Advisor. If you have any problems just type in Tripadvisor's search Kacenka and you should see my profile there with all my posts.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask. I hope this helps. Have a great time in Bali!

I've been to Bali twice a few years ago. 1st time in March, very hot and humid. 2nd time in August, beautiful, hot but not so humid. Perfect for beach and sightseeing.

Any time is good. Personally, I prefer the wet season, because everything is lusher and greener. And the rain is generally only for a short period of time in the late afternoon or early morning.

silvia1808,

I just returned from Bali (today, as a matter of fact...). The country is absolutely beautiful, but it was extremely hot and humid (I would break out in a sweat just thinking about having to go outside!) Supposedly, this is the rainy season, but it didn't rain once while I was there. I stayed in Sanur, but from what I understand, either Kuta or Jimbaran Bay is where you want to be for surfing, scuba diving and the like. I had drinks at a restaurant in Jimbaran Bay overlooking the ocean and saw several surfers and some fairly good sized waves. Wherever you stay, though, you will enjoy the country. I plan to do a trip report as soon as I get some sleep and unpack my bags. In the meantime, happy travels!

I live in Indonesia and have been to Bali around the calendar. Frankly, I don't see a whole lot of difference month to month. It is always hot, always humid. It's always likely to rain and during the rainy season it's likely to rain heavily (though definitely interspersed with dry periods during the day). Right now it's supposed to be the rainy season but like cleo I just spent 4 days there in perfect sunshine.

The best scuba diving and snorkling is on the East and North coasts. You can stay in the area or commute with a dive operation.

The Big Waves that surfers love are in the Spring. At that time some of the beaches around Legian and Seminyak can also be rough for swimming. The beaches at Nusa Dua, Sanur and Jimbaran are mostly always good swimming beaches.

I personally like the Seminyak area as a good combination of beach, restaurants, sunset, shopping and upscale accommodation.

Ubud is a must for culture and the arts.

I've been there a number of times, when I was in Asia in Jan and Feb and apart from just missing a night of heavy rain had brilliant sunshine.

Watch out for petty theft there, and buy yourself a can of mosquito spray for evening/night time. Sellers of junk on the beaches are a pain in the butt. Plenty of travel agents for tours.
