Ann Tours? Buffalo Tours?
Anyone used either of these for day trips in Vietnam? What has your experience been? Any other recommendations for private guides/day tours from Saigon, Hue, Hoi An, or Hanoi. We're looking to get out & see the countryside with a good guide.

We used Ann Tours for a trip to the delta a few years back. Seemed very efficient, if a little expensive. They are a well established operator in Vietnam, but like Sinh, have a number of imitators.

We used Ann Tours in December 2006 for a two day tour of the Mekong Delta. It was a private tour for the two of us, and expensive at $145 per person, but both the guide and driver were very good. Breakfasts and one lunch included. We stayed overnight in Can Tho, not at the Victoria, but the hotel was fine, and we really enjoyed the floating market and a few short walks. With more time we would explore on our own more, but for a short trip the tour was great.

Sorry haven't used either of the two companies you mention - but have used a great tour guide many times in Vietnam.
If you want something a little different - I would strongly recommend a fellow who works out of Hanoi. His name is Phuong and he goes by the nickname of "Smiley". He can be reached by email at [email protected]
Smiley is certainly one of the nicest people you could hope to meet. Knowledgable, honest, good sense of humour, and he speraks English very well. We have used him many times, and have recommended him to friends - who all reaved about his services.
Many people on this forum have also used 'Smiley' and rave about his excellence. You might want to give him a call ahead of time and see if he is available - because he is very busy.
Vietnam is one of our favourite places to visit - have a great trip!

Megamiles, I did a search and did not find any references to Smiley. Can you share some of the things that you did that were different or interesting from your many trips to Vietnam?
Crellston/Jean, Did you use Ann for any other tours or for internal Vietnam air tickets? We're thinking of using them for a driver from Hoi An to Hue and for a two day tour around Hue and into the countryside.

I've used Buffalo Tours for a trek in the north and they are excellent. Very classy and wonderful guides. I've also used HandSpan travel which I believe is now based in Saigon but has tours throughout the country. Also talk to Kim at Kim Cafe in Pham Ngu Lao in Saigon. She can arrange day trips into the Mekong Delta and perhaps beyond.

Thanks everyone for responses. I think we'll likely use Buffalo Tours in the North. But we're still considering Ann Tours for some tours in Hue & the surrounding area. Anyone have any experience with them? Someone on trip advisor complained of old cars and guides who arrived late.

My husband, son and I used Ann Tours for a two week trip in May/June 2007. They were extremely reliable, able to tailor the trip to our needs. The drivers were excellent, and the guides knowledgeable and welcoming. All pick ups were on time. Highly recommended

I booked some day trips with Ann Tours in Hanoi and Saigon a few years ago. Tony was very helpful and profession with everything and got us some discounts and upgrades at our hotels. The guides we met through Ann Tours were very professional and friendly. Would recommend Ann Tours for sure.

We used Asian Trails 2 years ago with very good results.
Two guides were especially good.
For Hue and Hoi An area :Nguyen Anh Co of Danang, [email protected] and also does work for a Canadian company http://www.sourcingforyou.com/index.html so may be contacted through them .
For Saigon, Mekong area:guide Phan Tai Tho, [email protected], also http://www.indochinavacation.com/
They worked with drivers who were very good, and good cars.
Bon Voyage!
