Thanks to United
While my DS, an Air Force chaplain stationed in Germany was deployed to Iraq, his wife and daughters were in the US. I bought tickets for them to visit here Dec 20-28. Tragically, her 61 year old mother died suddenly; my DS was called back to the US for emergency leave and then sent back to Germany. Of course, his family went home with him, so we had no need for the tickets.
I had purchased them with a combination of 25,000 Reward points from my bank and $75 per ticket. I called the bank, who set up a "case" with UA; we called UA, and emailed them, per their instructions, attaching a copy of the obituary. Within a week, we had a resonse, expressing condolences, and telling us $475 per ticket would be credited to our charge card. I couoldn't have asked for more!

Good for United, abram. You obviously had someone at your bank and someone at United with some empathy. I am sorry about your DIL's mother, such a young age.
Many thanks to your son for being there to help our troops during this most difficult period in their lives. May he stay safe.
