Seating Preference - 2 Adults/2children on a 3-3-3 seating plan?

Travelling Singapore Air 777 with 3-3-3 seating. What is our best option if soft blocking of the middle seat doesn't work? c & D seats line up so that we are side by side with an aisle between us or are they staggered.

Thanks for any ideas that may come...

instead of looking for side by side, why not look for seats that are behind each other in a 2-2 configuration - for example, middle and aisle of rows 15 and 16; middle and window of rows 15 and 16, etc. That way you are much closer together than if spanning across a single row.

My husband always made sure I was between the 2 kids and he was elsewhere with this kind of seating arrangement!

When we traveled with kids we opted for seating directly behind the first two seats. This year we are going to Hawaii and my husband and I will be in first class, the teens in coach. Do you know how long I have waited to be able to do that?

Just keep in mind that seat assignments are not guaranteed. If traveling with young kids, make sure that the kids are paired with a parent in each row in case your seat assignments are changed and are far apart from each other. You can always switch seats later.

Since you mentioned soft-blocking the middle seat, nothing wrong with booking window and aisle A and C (or J and G) in two consecutive rows near the back of the plane, in that location the middle seat is least likely to be booked by someone else.

If the middle seat is taken by someone else you can then offer to swap ending up with three in one row and one in the other, or middle and aisle (or middle and window if a child prefers and it is not cloudy leaving nothing to be seen out the window).

We recently flew to Fiji and back on a 737 which has 3 - 3 seating.

The flight was full on the way over but we found having three seats on one side and one on the isle on the other worked well. It gave one parent a break with the other sitting between the two kids.

However we were lucky on our return as the flight was not fully booked and we got a row to ourselves. (six seats)

I would recommend checking in early and enquiring as to whether, if the flight is not full, you would be able to have six seats across. You may be suprised to find how receptive the check-in staff are to this.

From the pictures posted on airliners.net, it looks like the seats are not perfectly aligned between the middle and the outer sections; less so for the rear cabin, but more staggered in the middle cabin.

Thanks for your replies -

rkkwan - you are correct, and is the cause of my concern.

I will request a window/aisle combo and if we get a middleman, maybe they can move if the plane isn't full or we can reshuffle (I'm sure no-one will want to sit between my two kids for long!).
