London Heathrow question

Do you think one and a half hours is enough connecting time from United (arriving fromChicago) in Terminal 1 to Aer Lingus also in Terminal 1?

Barring any serious delays it s/b OK but of course that's never a sure thing. Find out if there is a later flight from LHR to your final destination in case you miss it and need to be rebooked.

same or separate booking? If on the same booking, they'll put you on the next available flight.

But if you are booking these separately, you are on your own. What if your flight from Chicago is delayed 45 minutes or more? If you land when you are supposed to -- 90 minutes is plenty. If you land late, all bets are off.

Will your luggage be checked through to your final destination?

In any case you will have to pass through UK immigration checks as well as security checks (which means liquid checks)and will have to have your photo taken as international & domestic departures at T1 share a common departure lounge.

But if you & your luggage are checked through then 90 minutes is enough.

In fact it's what it says on the LHR website

It would be booked on Expedia, I assume all the way through on United from Chicago to Heathrow then on Aer Lingus to Shannon.

I'm no expert but the few times I've landed Heathrow from the US, more often than not I had delays. You get there on time but then are either circling in the air waiting to land, or on the tarmac waiting to be able to get an available gate. Often a 1/2 hour or more. I think that's where your plan could go wrong. If you're actually off the plane and in the airport with 90 mins. to change gates, that would be OK.
