frontier airlines

I got an email today from Fontier airlines sharing that they filed BK but were planning on continuing all flights.

We have flights on them this August to NYC --- I am nervous but assume I should just wait it out as there really is nothing I can do right???

Frontier has filed for bankruptcy protection. They will continue operations as normally as possible. Basically what happens is that a bankruptcy court will reasses their outstanding financial obligations as of now and restructure a payment plan to allow them to reorganize and continue operations.

Frontier is not the first airline to file Chapter 11, nor will they be the last.

I believe you will be fine with your summer travel plans.

Thanks Sam! With all the insecurity of airlines/flights these days it just makes me a little nervous.

Having said that - no real choice right now but to sit it out and see what happens.

If that trip is very important, and you don't mind money out of your pocket for a while, you may book a refundable backup on a different airline.

rkkwan - I know... I was thinking about that. We have 5 persons traveling and so it really hits big $$$$.

The trip is important, we have a house rented on Lake George... with dh's family. I think I will just keep on the look out...Jet Blue is usually pretty reasonable up to close to the time of departure...

rkkwan--Good idea. We have a visitor flying on Frontier in June to come visit us. Think I will see if they have thought of a backup plan. We flew on Frontier last weekend for the first time and loved it. I do hope they come out of this as they were great!

dawnnoelm - the back up plan is a good idea. Keep in mind that Frontier has 120 days from date of filing to file a reorganization plan and 180 days within which to get that plan confirmed (or rejected). That time can be extended, but it's not particularly easy. Bottom line is that this should take you through your Aug travel dates although, yes, it assumes that they can operate normally during that period and don't run into any roadblocks.

Besides the backup, I'd just keep updated on the progress of the case and see how the proceedings progress.

I think that is what I will - just keep up to date on what is going on - that is what these great boards are for right?

If it was just dh and I - I might consider just pulling the trigger and buying new tickets but the fact is that I have 5 persons traveling with us - we are only flying Frontier because I had canceled tickets on them (the story of my life) we were flying them into Denver for a trip last summer from SNA and it was canceled.

I prefer Jetblue as it is when we fly into NYC - it is non-stop. As it is we have to change planes in Denver.

Will keep my eyes/ears on the look out! Thanks for all the information.

I would not worry about Frontier. They will be just fine. The reason that they filed bankruptcy was a little different than most airlines. They have the money in the bank. By and large, their employees are happy. The reason they filed is basically to protect themselves and the consumers. The company that does their credit card processing wanted more money, and Frontier said no. The credit card company was set to institute it on April 11th. Frontier filed on April 10th to keep the credit card company from doing this.
