Flying between North America and Asia... Which airline do you prefer?

Which airline do you prefer to fly across the Pacific. Should I pick North American airlines (United, Continental, Air Canada, etc.) or Asian airlines (Cathay, Japan Airlines, Singapore Airlines). Which airlines has better services and entertainment?

I prefer North American airlines, at least for the trip home (I usually fly Northwest). The reason being after several weeks in Japan, I'm really homesick for American food. Japan has wonderful food, but I miss what I'm used to.

I have some male co-workers who prefer Singapore because of the attractive flght attendants. To each his own.....

Just returned from Hong Kong on 3/25. Flew nonstop Los Angeles - Hong Kong - Los Angeles (CX 881/CX 882) via Cathay Pacific business class.

Overall, service was very good if not excellent. Aircraft is a 747-400. Sat in upper deck. Ratio of flight attendants to passengers more than adequate. Seat recline comfortable enough for sleeping. Lots of onboard amenities, including personal video screen, travel kit, free access to galley snacks between meals, restrooms cleaned frequently, containing toothpaste, lotion, etc. Food onboard ranged from ok to very good.

A high point is "The Wing" lounge at Kai Tak airport, which puts the lounge at LAX to shame. Actually, Kai Tak airport makes LAX look like a dump in comparison. Kai Tak is very modern and you get served a bowl of hot noodles of your choice in addition to free access to sandwiches, fruit, deserts, candy, water, soft drinks, beer and alcohol. The facilities are very comfortable while you wait for your flight including showers. Another high point was the inflight supervisor HK to LA. She took the time to introduce herself to every passenger in our section and said to please call on her if there was anything she could do to make the flight more comfortable. By the end of the flight it was obvious she was sincere.

LA-HK flight departed ontime. HK-LA flight delayed 2 hours due to weather at HK, but they made up all but 1/2 hour in the air.

I would definitely fly Cathay again.

Definitely an Asian airline such as Thai, Cathay or Singapore. MUCH better service and food than on North American airlines.
PSLocal: Hong Kong's airport is called Chek Lap Kok. Kai Tak closed in 1998.

Sjoerd;

Geez how embarrassing. Thanks for the correction. Regardless, I thought the airport was great, as was Hong Kong. What a fabulous, albeit expensive, city.

psl
