I am a loyal member of the Air France Frequence Plus program which enables me to fly Continental, whom I love, and Delta Airlines and accrue miles with AF. Now that CO will no longer participate with AF, I am unsure with DL. My experience with them are so-so. I have not flown DL in over 3 years. Their most senior employees are very bitter and tired. I liked flying CO because they are mostly younger and happier. But, miles are also important to me... what should I expect as far as service, airport facilities, network, etc.?? any feedback is most appreciated.

Michaelg:<BR><BR>You won't have to worry about using your FF miles with Delta, it is almost impossible to use those miles. That is unless you are willing to double the amount of miles and use Skywish. I fly Delta all of the time and very rarely have been able to book anything with FF miles except domestic jaunts.

Our family of six has flown free twice to Hawaii from the Northeast with our Delta Frequent Flyer miles. You do need to plan ahead.

I am flying free to Rome on Delta this month, two business class tickets. Planning ahead is key on any of the airlines anymore. They give away so many miles thru non-flying that you just can't book late.

I used Delta Frequent Flyer miles to fly to Paris last month. I had no problem booking last October for a trip in April this year. The only problem was when Delta quit flying from DFW to CDG and I had to re-book in late January. First person I dealt with was unable to help (she was trying to book me through Cincinnatti with a 45 minute layover). I hung up, called back a half hour later and got what I needed (thru Atlanta with a 3 hour layover).

Delta has also removed all blackout dates for the use of their Frequent Flier tickets. Now you can travel when you really want to do it!

Michaelg,<BR><BR>Not sure what you mean by "younger and happier" - I find most DL employees to be very friendly and helpful. As far as award travel, in my experience they have been the easiest airline to secure award seats thru (with the exception of SWA which has almost no limitations).

Although I have FF Miles Delta is not my favorite airline. Their customer service leaves something to be desired and there is no one to complain to and I don't think they care anyway. On my last domestic flight out of Atlanta to my home they tried to tell everyone they had no pretzels, nuts or drinks on board. Give me a break!!! Atlanta is their major hub. This cannot happen. Guess they think we are all a bunch of gullible idiots!

Everyone has mentioned booking ahead, but YOU CAN BOOK LATE! In some cases, the later the better. I flew New Orleans to London (return Amsterdam to New Orleans) last summer with 48 hours notice. Seats were not sold a few days before the flight so the airline (Delta) opened them up for frequent fliers. The DL agent told me that she was usually unable to book anyone to London if the passenger calls 1-6 months out.

Going to Greece in October 2002 on Delta Business Class using FFMiles. Had no problem booking about three months ago. Love Delta just joined their one Million mile club.

I Have redeemed 960,000 Delta miles over the last 10 years for 16 first class tickets for both my wife and I to Hawaii. With all their different hubs, i find it quite easy to get FF seat especially since you can look on line. Just do it in advance and have some flexibility-you might not get a non stop at 9 am but you can do it rather easily and free.
