Changing name on return Delta ticket
My friend flew with her daughter from LAX to GUA with a ticket in her married name, Jones, and a passport in her birth name, Garcia. She is married to a US citizen, has a green card, but still uses her Guatemalan passport in her maiden name, Garcia. They allowed her to leave the US, and it was no problem to enter Guatemala since her passport is Guatemalan. Now she is ready to return to the US and is afraid they will not allow her to leave since the name on her ticket is not the same as the name on her passport. She would be returning with their 10 year old daughter whose ticket name and passport name are the same.
I have told the husband that she needs to contact the airline, preferably in person at their office with all her documents in hand) and ask if they can/will change the name on the ticket to match the name on her passport. If they can't/won't, I said that she should cancel the return portion of the ticket and buy a new one way ticket in the correct name to return (before the date of the return flight).
Any other suggestions? Comments?

Yep -- that is what she needs to do. Delta probably can/will change the ticket but it is going to cost quite a bit.

Did she use a different government issued ID with her married surname that matched the ticket name to check in with the airline when departing the US? Just curious.
I remember years ago going through the name change on documentation when marrying and deciding to change my legal name. I cannot imagine the complications today plus add green card status and using both maiden and married surnames on different identifications.

She had her green card with the surname Jones, and her marriage certificate showing she, Carmen Garcia, is married to Tom Jones. Unless she becomes a citizen, she will only have her Guatemalan passport and changing the name on it is probably a bureaucratic nightmare.
She has been back and forth between these two countries numerous times during their marriage and it seems like she would know how to book a ticket in the correct way to avoid these problems. Just my opinion.
