Hi all,

I know that no one can predict the price of airfare but I just wanted any suggestions that you may have. I need tickets from Louisville, KY (SDF) to Calgary (YYC) 7/3-7/11 and tickets from SDF to Rome (FCO) from 9/24-10/3. I was surprised at the cost of the Calgary tickets ($700) and the Rome tickets are running around $1100. I am willing to fly out of any airport that is relatively close to me but still have not found any deals. I am also willing to change dates a couple of days either way but this also has not made a difference. I know that I may have put the cart before the horse but I already have accommodations at both places. Any tips on how long I should wait and if these are the best prices I am likely to find. Thanks.

I doubt you'll find lower fares for SDF-YYC. These are not routes you'll find deep discount fares.

I think you have two other strikes against you with the dates of your SDF-YYC trip: You want to depart on 4th of July weekend, a busy travel time; and your trip overlaps the week of the Calgary Stampede. (I've always wanted to go to that.) I can't believe there will be any discounted airfares at that time.

IMO it is way too early to consider buying Sept. SDF-Rome tickets. As you mentioned, there is no way to predict sales but there were great fare sales to Europe last summer for fall travel. I'd wait a bit on that one.
