Best airport for short connection, SFO or ICN

I'm traveling to BKK via SFO-ICN and currently have a 50 minute connection time in SFO and 2 hours in ICN. I may have the option to flip those by changing to a later flight out of SFO. Which airport is better for a short connection?

That doesn't give you much time at all. Delays can occur for many reasons. Is there no way to get flights with longer lay over times? We missed a flight from Toronto to Tokyo last Sept. weather delayed our flight from Chicago to Toronto by nearly 3 hrs. We had a 3.5 yr. layover but that turned out to be not enough.

What airline are you taking and if you miss the flight in SFO do they have other flights later that day that you might be able to catch? As we found out in Toronto the flights for Tokyo, either NRT or Haneda all left in the afternoon so we had no other option except to leave the next day. All flights were gone. What are your options?

Personally I would go to SFO way earlier or even a day before just to be safe. There are fairly inexpensive hotels near the airport but that's up to you. For me less 1 hr. is out of the question.

I'd take the 50 min change in ICN (vs SFO) in a heartbeat -- ICN is extremely efficient. SFO is one of the most delay-prone airports in the U.S.

Arriving from Asia at SFO can take a long time. Do you have Global Entry?

I'd personally never book a 50 minute connection there -- even for domestic to domestic.

Let me clarify. I'm flying AUS-SFO-ICN-BKK and I'm told my flight to SFO arrives in the same terminal as the flight to ICN.

I've flown though SFO many, many times. As Don says, it is one of the most delay-prone airports in the US. I'd never try for a 50 minute connection time there.

Another vote for the incredibly efficient ICN.
