Allegiant Ai

Experiences in flying this airline? Once you factor in all of the upsells they do, is it really less expensive than one of the major airlines? I am always concerned they only fly specific routes once or twice a week, which could leave you stuck if there's bad weather or a mechanical problem. Not to mention they've had some issues recently with safe landings?

I can't comment on the safety of their landings, but you've answered your own question. Is the issue saving a couple of dollars, or is the issue having the flexibility and service behind a major airline? Only you can answer that question for yourself. And I wouldn't even comment unless I knew the route you were talking about.

They charge extra for everything

The best thing about Allegiant is they serve some very small markets. But unless I was in one of those where Allegiant is the ONLY game in town, I wouldn't use them.

Several of my relatives fly them for trips from KY to Florida. In Orlando, they use a smaller airport (Sanford) which is further out. The benefit from here is non-stop. Since CVG was a Delta hub, LEX was also mostly Delta. To fly from LEX on DL, you have to change in Atlanta.

I have flown Allegiant several times to Punta Gorda,FL to see elderly relatives and the times, scheudles, etc. were fantastic for a long weekend. I also have booked for cruises. I no longer do. I found that all of the extras added up to the cost of other airlines from my area. In addition, when using for cruises out of FT Lauderdale, they almost always get you there a day early and you have to stay an additional day to get back....so add on two hotel rooms, meals, etc. The flight back from FT. Lauderdale is at 6 a.m.! Don't know about flights from/to other areas nor have I noticed any safety issues.
