I will be teaching in Bahrain for two years beginning in September, and plan to take advantage of the opportunity to see as much of this part of the world as possible on weekends and school breaks. Suggestions?

I HAVE TRAVELED TO BAHRAIN X 3. DON'T KNOW HOW MUCH HELP I CAN BE BUT YOU AN EMAIL ME AND WE CAN TALK. I AM LEAVING FOR DUBAI, UNITED ARAB EMIRATES, IN 3 DAYS. I LIVE AND WORK IN SAUDI ARABIA.
SHERILYN
I am thinking about joing with a Saudi businessman to devlop retail operations in Saudi Arabia. Can you recommend some books or magazines that I might read to familiarize my self with cultural and business customs in this region of the world?
Thanks
Hello Sherrilyn,
Sorry to take so long to respond. I'm just getting used to bulletin boards and discussion groups, and I just got your message. I will be leaving for Bahrain on August 18th. Can you give me some ideas about clothing to pack? I know that it is very hot there now, but I wonder how cool it gets and whether I need to pack sweaters at all. Also, are there items which are very expensive which would be best to bring with me? Pat
I was stationed in Saudi Arabia for 3 months so can give you a little information. Hot is an understatement. Expect the low at night to be in the 90's with a high from 120-135!! However with the Muslim culture men must wear pants and short sleeve shirt. Women must wear an abaya (black tent-like gown over their clothes)- and you know how black absorbs heat. Everything I bought was from the base, so don't know what the prices are for other things. Be sure to buy a Cashmere rug when you are there - great bargain. If you have specific questions, please email me.
Pat, I am happy to meet you. I too am going to Bahrain to teach for 2 years in August. I have friends living in Bahrain. E-mail me so that we can talk!
