the Jambo song?

Just returned from Kenya and Tanzania (will post trip report and photos when we've had time to organize). Does anyone know who sings the song "Jambo" - we heard it non-stop (even a guides cell phone ring tone!) when we were there and am trying to find a copy now that we're home.

The chorus goes:
"jambo, jambo, something something, hakuna matata"?

Any ideas?

Yup, it is:

Jambo - Hakuna Matata
Boney M.

Jambo, Jambo Bwana - Jambo, Jambo Bwana, Hakuna Matata.

Jambo, Jambo Bwana - have a good time, enjoy the samba.
Jambo, Jambo Bwana - you are welcome, Hakuna Matata.
Jambo, Jambo Bwana - have a good time, enjoy the samba.
Jambo, Jambo Bwana - take it easy, Hakuna Matata.

Can you hear the drum beat? Hakuna Matata.
Can you hear the singing? Hakuna Matata.
Can you see the dancing? Hakuna Matata.
If you want romancing. Hakuna Matata.

Jambo, Jambo Bwana - Jambo, Jambo Bwana, Hakuna Matata.

Jambo, Jambo Bwana - have a good time, enjoy the samba.
The scent of the sweet chacaranda, it's Nirwana, Hakuna Matata.
Jambo, Jambo Bwana - have a good time, enjoy the samba.
Jambo, Jambo Bwana - take it easy, Hakuna Matata.

Can you hear the drum beat? Hakuna Matata.
Can you hear the singing? Hakuna Matata.
See them dancing. Hakuna Matata. And Romancing. Hakuna Matata.

Jambo, Jambo Bwana - Jambo, Jambo Bwana, Hakuna Matata.
Jambo, Jambo Bwana - have a good time, enjoy the samba.
Jambo, Jambo Bwana - take it easy, Hakuna Matata.
Jambo, Jambo Bwana - have a good time, enjoy the samba...

Jambo, Jambo bwana...

Jambo, Jambo Bwana,
(Hello, Hello Sir),
Habari gani,
(How are you),
Mzuri sana.
(Very fine).

Wageni, mwakaribishwa,
(Foreigners, you're welcome),
Kenya yetu Hakuna Matata.
(In our Kenya there is no problem).

Kenya nchi nzuri,
(Kenya is a beautiful country),
Hakuna Matata.
(There is no problem).

Nchi ya maajabu ,
(A wonderful country),
Hakuna Matata.
(There is no problem.)

Nchi yenye amani,
(A peaceful country),
Hakuna Matata.
(There is no problem).

Hakuna Matata,
(There is no problem),
Hakuna Matata.
(There is no problem).

Watu wote,
(Everybody),
Hakuna Matata,
(There is no problem),
Wakaribishwa,
(Are welcome),
Hakuna Matata.
(There is no problem).

Hakuna Matata,
(There is no problem),
Hakuna Matata. (mpaka mwisho)
(There is no problem). (till end)

Seems many different variations...

Are they versions of the same song? Or completely different?

I know wilst in Tanzania so the words were altered thus to be

Kenya yetu Hakuna Matata.

Or something similar. Having climbed kilimanjaro one of the highlights is the traditional "Kilimanjaro" song by the porters, cooks, guides etc. On the bus back from Mweka village there were almost 30 people singing both songs out via the PA system: put me in mind of Ken Kesey's bus "Further" back in the 60s with the Merry Pranksters et al.

How addictive is that little song?! Guides and locals must hate it but we loved it (they sang it for my birthday at our hotel in Tz). Embarassed to say we bought the CD of safari Songs sold in JRO airport and listening to it really reminds us of Africa (it has the Kilimanjaro song on it, too!).

Leely,
I had a roadside vendor serenade me with this song at a gas station this past trip

The version I heard was the one Matt posted.

Patty, unfortunately I don't think I inspire serenades anymore.

Is everybody listening and singing along? I repeat:
http://mwanasimba.online.fr/E_songs_jambo.htm

Kavey, it’s the same song. Boney M made an adaptation of it.
