Tanzania in mid May?
Hi,
I will be traveling to Tanzania in May. We will be there for 10 days and are starting in Dar es Salam and ending in Arusha. I know that this will techinically be the rainy season and was wondering if anyone on here has been to Tanzania in May and can give a first hand account of the weather.
Thanks!

the rainy season should be well over in may especially in the part you are travelling.
secondly: if i could predict the weather still - i would not sit where i am sitting but having my own fancy camp in zambia doing nothing accept game drives.....
based on the weather pattern in the past it's becoming more and more a surprise what to expect. of course you can take precautions regarding temperatures. but rain might be anywhere anytime.
but when it comes to safari/game drives: despite miserable weather (from tourist point of view) there is action all over the place and you just have to appreciate what you see.

Whether it will or whether it won't, no one can say. May is one of the wet months, but there can also be rain in June (July, Aug, Sept.... the "dry" months)... it's weather.
Rarely does it rain daily, or even all day, often brief thunderstorms or showers over night.
It's nothing much to worry about and game will still be plenty.
Have fun!

Thank you so much! The only thing I was concerned about was rain all day. As long as I pack smartly and am prepared I'm sure I'll be fine. It would be lovely if we could predict the weather, but it seems like most meterologists have difficulties these days. Thanks again!

You'll get a pricing break. Here are some May reports that were easily found on the East Africa Index. The creator and updater of that link, Lynda, went in May too.

As Lynn mentioned, I went in May - two years actually, both in 2006 and 2007.
In 2006 we went more towards the end of May and the weather was perfect. It was beautiful! Not too hot, not cold, and not rainy. I remember rain in the Mara (which is Kenya though, not Tanzania) one of the years, but it was only for an hour or so, but I think it was 2007.
In 2007 we went from mid-May to the end of May - it again was incredible. The only rain we saw was in Nairobi at the start of our trip for a little bit each day for 2 days.
