Short stopover in Egypt

Hi I'm flying into Ams via Egypt air.So I'm planning for a short stopover perhaps for 3 or 5 days?

I would like to do day trip for pyramids and museum in Cairo, day trip to Alexandria, Luxor and Aswan, also a tour for white and black dessert.

Is it possible to do it in 5days?or what shall i do if just a 3days?

Possible to do what I mentioned above without a guide but just self travel with public transport?

Thank you

Most any place is doable on your own but in Egypt I would prefer a guide. Here is one that his highly recommended by many members of this board.

You can visit the pyramids/museum/bazaar in 1/day while in Cairo; can do a day trip to Alexandria. Luxor and/or Aswan require flights to/from and 1/day too short, as might be 2/days. Likewise, believe the desert requires a few days as this is a road trip.

Good personal experience here for me for a short stay
in the past I would stay outside downtow currently.
travel.state.gov for a heads up on all the Civil
unrest there Casual Cairo is good and posts here
a lot ladyegypt.com another good one.Personally
might stay flexible book when you get there it
will be cheaper to do so boots on the ground.
insuremytrip.com would be wise. Luxor Alexandria
to far unless you make more time.

Have fun be careful.

Luxor can be done as a day-trip. Granted - it's a long day, but if that's the only way to fit it in, I'd do it.

Grcxx3 -

Luxor in one day is probably probably 18+/hrs. with an early depart from hotel for 6-7am flight out of CAI and last flight from LUX... you're a better woman than I am.

sandi - LOL! I didn't say it was easy, but it IS doable!

I have never done it (no need), but I knew several people visiting Cairo for a short stay that did it. Their unanimous opinion was that it was tiring, but worth it.

Another way some people do Luxor in a day is to take the Sleeping Train down one night and back to Cairo the next night. If you are really tough (or on a serious budget) you can take the regular seated train down and back at night. That would be grueling, but possible.

If you take the train with seats you will have some good stories to tell for years to come. But if the budget allows I recommend the sleeper train.

I think you have to skip white and black dessert. You don't have enough time to cover all theses sights in 3-5 days
I recommend starting by Cairo, then (Train or Flight) to Aswan then Luxor. For Cairo tours, 2 days needed to cover it, one day for Aswan & one day for Luxor

It's better to have a guide to explain (to be easier) History ,life style and give you some advises to avoid waste you limited time.

I used Heba Saeed in Cairo [email protected]
John Wasfi in Aswan & Luxor [email protected]

YUJJIN, your trip to Egypt too short to visit all this sights in 3 or 5 days, I agree with Travelline, just skip the desert and Alexandria, I don't like to visit Alex. Not a big sight except Kom Shokafa only. No thing there, enjoy your time in Luxor you can see more and more temples and civilizations

I agree-in 3-5 days I'd only go to Cairo & Luxor. We had a guide Ahmed Hamed [email protected]-He took care of all the hotels flights & guides all throughout our trip to Egypt/Jordan. I see other people on this forum have used him recently-he is a prince of a man. Chris
