safari prices
I am looking to finalize a trip to kenya in august this year and I am amazed by the price difference amongst the tour operators, I saw some of the postings about the diff between operators based here and there. Is there anything else I should look out for? I got quotes of about $1000 +/- for a 8 day safari does that sound reasonable?

prkrishnan - $1,000 for 8-days incountry - that's $125/day. Reasonable? For travel in August during Migration... you hit the lottery!
Where are you going, staying? Is this group or independent travel? Lodges, tent camps? And who is offering this price? List your itinerary and accommodations so we can comment.

Without knowing more details, it's difficult to say. Is this a camping or lodge safari? Could you post the itinerary? I would say about $200 per person per night is an average starting price for a lodge based safari traveling by road in Kenya in high season. That's counting the nights on safari. I don't count the nights (if any) in Nairobi as that only adds minimally to the overall cost. So at first glance, your price looks very reasonable.

The average price I listed above was also based on a private safari for 2 people. So if this is a group itinerary or you have more than 2 passengers, then the average price would be a little less. More details please
