Public transport in Kenya is very tricky especially for tourists. But it also works for millions of the locals in their every day transit.
The buses normally travel long distances as you mentioned from Nbo to Msa or Kisumu or Kisii.
You wonna use the 9-seater mini vans commonly called Matatu from Naivasha to Nairobi and vise vasa. They operate from designated tarminus commonly called 'stage'. They charge less than $6 from Nairobi to Naivasha town
But from the matatu stage in Naivasha to the lake, you will need to use a taxi ( maybe $10) BUT you will need to be in a car to enter the national park.
Also, from Nbo to Nanyuki and back, you look for the matatu stage location in Nbi and board a matatu to take you to Nanyuki ( best way is to go to Meru and then when in Meru get another matatu to Nanyuki).
Again you will need to be in a car to enter the parks both in Nanyuki, so plan on that.
Not the easiest way toove around and especially the time between cities on the not- so-good road conditions.
Hope that helps and good luck.

I will echo George in there are mini vans travelling from Naivasha to Nairobi daily to be found in Naivasha town Main Terminus.

For the Nairobi Mt Kenya (Nanyuki) trip, the main terminus where you can get transportation is in Nairobi city center place called "Tea Room". The best way to get to Mt Kenya is take a direct mini van to Nanyuki rather going to Meru and changing Mini vans. Charges are USD $4 to $5.
