Please help with Jordan/Israel preliminary itinerary

Would appreciate any advice at all on this itinerary I put together. The air tickets are booked, so the number of days are fixed, but everything else is open to suggestions:

Day 1: Arrive in Amman and transfer to Kempinski Ishtar hotel at the Dead Sea

Day 2: Transfer to Petra and overnight there

Day 3: Petra/Wadi Rum (possible overnight in Wadi Rum?)

Day 4: Transfer to Israel (****is this possible from the south or do I need to go back north? ) and on to Ein Gedi kibbutz overnight

Day 5: Tour of Masada and then on to Jersualem

Day 6, 7 : Jerusalem

Day 8, 9: Tel Aviv

Depature after midnight on the 9th day

Thanks so much in advance!!

You time is tight in Jordan (I loved Jordan!) - what time do you arrive on Day 1 and will you be fighting jet lag? If early I'd try to see Jerash and Bethany Beyond the Jordan before you go to the Kempinski (wonderful hotel).

And on Day 2 are you planning on stopping at Mt Nebo, Karak on the way to Petra?

Day 3 - planning to do both Petra and Wadi Rum on the same day? I think you have to pick one or maybe leave very early on Day 2 so you can visit Petra that afternoon as well.

HI Elizabeth:
Glad you wrote as your trip report to Jordan was the inspiration for booking my trip!

We will be arriving in Amman at 9:30 am, and hoping to get to Kempinski around 1 pm, so we have the day to "laze around".

We would leave the next day for Petra and take in some of the sights there later in the day (staying at the Movenpick) when it cools off. The next morning, we would see more of Petra, then head off to Wadi Rum. I still can't decide about sleeping overnight in the desert...

Did you ever post the name and contact info for your tour guide in Jordan?

jparis - I had posted it elsewhere in response to your question - here it is again.

Our driver's name was Bashar Herzalla - I'm trying to find the name of the company he works for - I think it's Gulf Holidays (but it was booked through our Egypt travel planner)

Bashar's email is

[email protected]

The guide's name is Osamah Twal (he's an independent guide hired by the company).

I really think you need to add another day to Jordan if you want to see Petra and Wadi Rum - I don't see how you could do both in one day

It seems reasonable to me! Although there is so much more to see in Jordan, Petra and Wadi Rum are very exhausting if you really want to see them, so it may make sense not to cram in other things.

If you get up quite early on Day 2, you can have a pretty full Day in Petra and then another morning there on Day 3. Leave by noon or one for Wadi Rum and you'll get there in time to do a Jeep tour and some hikes. Spending the night there is highly highly recommended.

I'm not sure on entering Israel from the south vs. from the north in terms of which would be faster (it is possible to enter from the south, though).

Thanks for you reply Sarah.
Actually, the airlines changed the departure time, causing us to lose 1/2 day in Jordan. So we are going straight from Amman to Petra, staying 2 nights there and the 3rd night in the desert at Wadi Rum (glad you agree!!). I booked everything through Petra Moon and although they were initially hard to get a hold of, they have been great. Their prices seem reasonable and their professionalism was incredible. I'll let everyone knows how it goes!
