(Merzouga + Erg Chebbi) or (Zagora + Mhamid)
I am in the midst of planning my tour. We (4 adults and two 6-yr old children)will be travelling in a minivan driven by a guide-driver. We would like to avoid camel-trek of more than 1-2 hours, and would love for the children to get a reasonable flavour of what a desert is.
I have 1.5 days that I am unable to decide between either the Merzouga or Zagora. I have been told that the dunes of Erg Chebbi are spectacular as compared to those of Mhamid. But some on this forum feel that Draa Valley is awsome, and desert outside Mhamid can be combined with it.

Frankly I'm not sure which desert we saw... it was near Erfoud. In any case.. the camel ride was organized for just about sunset. We trecked out on the dunes..maybe 30 minutes. Dismounted, climbed to the top of the dune and watched the sun set. Then the camel drivers tried to show us things they had for sale before we remounted for the 20-30 minute treck back to our camp. The cost was 200 dh per person. We also saw the Draa Valley, which was lovely, but it was separate from the camel/dunes part.

The dunes at Merzouga are much more impressive than those at Zagora/Mhamid. The Draa valley is beautiful too, but you pass through lovely oases on the way to Merzouga, so you'll still get to see scenery similar to the Draa.
