Gift for South African Host Family
Hi,
My son has been living with a family in Durban, South Africa for the summer to play rugby. I leave tomorrow to visit him and can not think of what to bring them. My son says to bring wine, but I do not plan to check a bag. I want to bring them something unique to America or St. Louis (where I live). Any ideas?

There's plenty of excellent wines produced in South Africa, so to me that would be out.
If there anything that St. Louis is known for - foods, hard or soft goods, etc. - consider.
Living in NYC, I bring bagels most everywhere.

A calendar that features pictures of St. Louis, especially the Arch; or of the Midwest. A cookbook of local dishes, the kind you find in gift shops that feature local stuff. These were big hits with my South African friends.
