Costs

I hope to visit Morocco this coming fall for a few weeks. I have contacted a few agencies concerning costs and I am not sure what is reasonable and/or what to expect concerning the costs in having a driver/guide to drive me from city to city i.e. Marrakech to Essaouira or Fes to Merzouga. I would appreciate any feedback concerning the above.

You might try Lonely Planet's Thorntree for info on costs.

Things move much faster in Morocco (as in other 3rd world countries) than they do in guide books... so don't take too much notice of the costs given in any book.

Prices are falling. A 7 seat Land Cruiser with AC and driver can be had for 1,200dhs a day, including fuel, if you know where to look.

Smaller cars aren't really my market, but you can rent medium size cars for 350dhs a day, small ones for 250dhs a day. A driver would add 100 to 200dhs to those figures.

Traveling by road is definitely the best way to see the country, and I never tire of it!

Thanks Markwillenbrock.

That is approximately the prices/day I am being quoted now. I plan on eventually posting some comments on Fodors about the various tour agencies that I have contacted hoping that will help other travelers decide how to manage their trip to Morocco.
