Cape Town Shopping and Dining

Leaving for South Africa on Thursday.

Are there any open air markets in Cape Town?

Also, any suggestions on reasonable places for dinner in Cape Town?

Will be going with Collette Tours...so hope we will be able to find time to do some shopping, and we definitely like to find bargains, so we can bring home some little gifts, eg. necklaces, etc to our friends and family.

there are a few open markets- one by the castle. there are lots of areas that you will see gift tables set up by locals.there are also a few shops that sell items all made in SA by local women and procedes from these sales go back to their villages.

Our favorite meal was at Savoy Cabbage

have a wonderful trip

There's an open-air market in Greenpoint but I think it's only there two days a week, one of which is Sundays.

I thought that the Sunday Greenpoint market was fascinating, especially for anyone who has not traveled in sub Saharan Africa. I wrote about it, along with lots of restaurant info, here:

There are also open air craft/art stalls in the center of town, near Long Street..these should be open daily.

ekscrunchy -- I just read the Cape Town portion of your report and loved it! It has the most informative description of shopping in Cape Town that I've read. I'm printing it out to take with us on our trip. We have only two and a half days in Cape Town; I wish we had planned for more. But then again, I wish we had more time in the other places we are visiting, too!

I'm not sure whether you mentioned it in your report or not, but did the box of stuff you shipped from Cape Town arrive on time and in one piece?
