Cape Town Hotel Recommendation
Hello everyone, my wife and I are heading over to Africa (1st time) in August and we'll be staying in Cape Town for 4 nights. We're 27 so we're looking for something not so expensive and perhaps in the Waterfront area. We're looking at the Protea Breakwater Lodge....anyone know if this place is any good or if there's a better option?
Also, we're planning on doing a daytrip up to Stellenbosch for a wine tour. Any recommendations on a tour company? We've seen some good things about Easy Rider.

hi tim,
what about a b+b in ct? they have wonderful b+b establishments for rather little money compared to a hotel room:

as august might be getting a bit rough weatherwise in capetown you should go up table mountain as soon as there is no "tablecloth" and don't postpone it!
are you afraid of driving on the "wrong side of the road - guess you are american?
what about renting a car and driving up to the winelands where you have a choice of going to stellenbosch, franschhoek and paarl?
have no information on a tourcompany as driving and all that involved it pretty easy based on the assumption you have got an idea of what you want.

don't forget a cure against motion sickness ;-)

we just stayed in CT (in our 30's) and rented an apartment in SeaPoint about a block off the beach.

We did the Waterfront for a day from the Protea Breakwater. And we were lucky to find Stillness Manor in the Constantia Valley on our second day. We had a rental car which was reasonably cheap, got around from there and even went back to the Waterfront twice for dinner in 20 minutes.
I would not stay in the Waterfront: it's too touristic and expensive. And not that great. The hotels next to the vineyards were a lot more fun and a new experience for us.

I found Seapoint to be too quiet for my taste. If it were me I would stay in Greenpoint.
The Victoria Junction hotel in Greenpoint is within easy walking distance of the Waterfront and the city center. For young people these are the more lively areas.
In August you won't be going to the beach so being near the beach is not an advantage.
