Africa & the Middle East 2.0?

Typing Out Loud – Aye yi-yi!

I’ve not spent a lick of time in other Fodor’s Talk areas and am sure many regions feel the same way, lakini, in my humble opinion, the Africa & Middle East Forum is so very special and oozing with gifted folks from every nook and cranny of expertise possible in regards to traveling to this destination, this diverse continent, that perhaps the addition of an “Africa Lounge” would sate the many needs and passions…

General Fodor’s Fodder is/can be awesome in its pure form, but going deeper is not always best or necessary [insert O.V.E.R. stimulating 4 most of us newbies] for all folks in different ages, stages and exposure to the various countries and needs of traveling information.

Bottom Line: All the input is good, perspectives from all interested bodies is good, dissention from norms is good, but the Africa forum ideal is and has been good as well and would be grand not to be lost. If folks are ready and interested for more ‘Mumbo Jambo’ (tiihii) then it could be a click away! What say you all? Katie?

Let’s meet in the Africa Lounge

I’ll see YOU in the Lounge!

Twende sebule sasa! (Probably wrong word order)

Africa Lounge -- No Holds Barred!

Ooo ooo ooo! I know, tell U in the Lounge…

Yo! You. Me. Lounge Now!

Asanteni sana!

Yours in Service, Den

Huh? Can someone please interpret this for me.

Or, is it that if I don't understand it, it's not for me?

Exactly my point Tom, LOL!

It’s not for you!

Don’t ask me directly, just make me feel lousy in public! That’s okeedokee, I’ll recover!

When I first discovered this forum shortly before my trip to Tanzania in 2006 I found it incredibly informative. Then it went through a stage similar to what I see now; double names, personal agendas etc. and without going into boring details, more than a bit of harassment came my way on the forum (which Katie, the editor, very professionally took care of) but has lasted off the forum till this day because of behind the scenes tiffs I could in no way be aware of, and, do not care about. I am just an inquisitive traveler looking to score good information to help make informed decisions. Not an expert in anything related here for sure!

I do not peek on Fodor’s often, but when I can catch up I enjoy all the posts from newbies and the comments from the seasoned Fodorites as I continually learn from them and stow away what I like in my knowledge bank for future reference (dreams).

In catching up this evening, I saw posts that were locked out, blahblah etc. and at that moment it depressed me a bit thinking about folks just popping in for information who have to sift through all that adding to their trip anxieties, but I am over it, they are all adults and will just have to allot the extra time sifting through what I did not have to when I first came to the forum.

Yea I know, naïveté, I trip over myself all the time! Just a thought, forgive me please – CARRY ON!

Out, Den

p.s. I do remember your sage words to me Tom in regards to my camera questions back in the day in this thread: http://fodors.com/forums/threadselec...p;tid=34807800

Thanks again for taking the time to comment and give advice. Sadly, I did not actually get the camera in my hands until THE NIGHT BEFORE my trip but I still think (in the eye of the beholder) I may have a good snap or two from my trip by default of the good camera! But, me thinks I do not have the ballettes to show then here!!!!

Denbasking, I understand that some threads might be “over stimulating” to newbies, but I wouldn’t want an “Africa Lounge”. It would be better to put some kind of warning sign in the title of some threads, like a skull with crossbones, and that could be added after the first post if things went out of hand.

"'over stimulating' to newbies" is a nice phrase.

Though I also find some threads 'over stimulating' to oldies. For instance, scaring birds at camp's breakfast table with a plastic water gun...
