This modern alerce-shingled house and accompanying cabins with grassy roofs give a drop-dead gorgeous view of Volcán Osorno outside town. Located about 2 km (1 mile) north of Puerto Octay on the road to Osorno, the eager-to-please Chilean-Swiss couple owners can rent you bikes and help you arrange rental cars, guided horseback-riding, hiking, and cycling tours. Rates include a wonderful breakfast with homemade breads, jams and küchen, outstanding local cheeses and meats, and excellent coffee.

The modern and spotless hotel facilities at the Conrado are welcome among Osorno's old and tired hotel offerings. Located near downtown, it's an easy walk to shops and sites in the city. Officially a three-star hotel, it does not have the extra services like a gym, but the rooms have all the amenities and come with high-speed Wi-Fi. They also serve tasty Brazilian coffee with breakfast. 

Near the highway, the hotel is convenient for travelers driving through the Lake District and has clean, spacious rooms. Services are solid, but unspectacular, including a restaurant, outdoor pool for the hot summer days, and gym. You can't go wrong with a night or two here.

European travelers favor this solid budget option up the hill from the bus station. The rooms are small but have comfy beds with lots of pillows. Look at a few before you pick one, as some have skylights rather than windows. The staff is exceptionally friendly and helpful. This is a good, cheap option for one night.

For Puerto Montt, this is a good value option for the price, though the hotel could benefit from some renovation.

This grand 1920s German-style house sits at Niebla's main intersection near the picturesque coastline and has been converted into a lovely bed-and-breakfast with lots of knickknacks, antiques, and cuckoo clocks in the common areas. Just a half hour drive from the center of Valdivia, the rooms have modern amenities but retain their old wood-finishing and overlook either the sea or the pool and back gardens.

This lovely old hotel is really two in one, with nuevo (new) and clásico (classic) wings facing each other across Avenida Bulnes in the city center. The rooms in the new wing are slightly better, but the rooms in the old wing are bigger. La Taberna, the restaurant on the ground floor, has excellent steak and seafood. Choose this hotel if you want to be in midtown.

Thermo-panel windows keep the noise and cold out, and with central heating and air-conditioning, it's a step up from most hotels nearby. The meeting rooms on-site and location in the center of town make this is an especially good spot for business travelers. Children under 10 can stay for free, apart from a charge for breakfast.

The premier business hotel in Puerto Montt, this hotel goes above and beyond by offering travelers good value and comfort. The rooms are big, pleasant, and nicely furnished. The heated pool is also a big plus. It's worth taking a taxi to this hotel in a city that has few of such quality.

The triangular-shaped cabins at this hotel are surprisingly well-equipped, with kitchens, Internet, cable TV, and phones. Each of the two types of cabins—superior (split level) and tourist (one floor)—are a good option for groups and families, sleeping 4 to 10 people. The so-called tourist cabins are more simply furnished and do not include maid service. They also offer domos, which can comfortably sleep two people. But the main reason to stay are the thermal pools, which are included in the price of the cabin. Day visits to the pools are also possible for 26,000 pesos, and the spa has massages (including a chocolate massage) and facial treatments.
