Scheels is two very impressive stories of apparel, fishing gear, firearms, home goods, ski equipment, bikes, Montana-themed gifts, and just about everything you need to enjoy the local outdoors. It also rents out ski equipment, snowboards, and snowshoes from November through March. Bike rentals are available in the summer from Memorial Day to Labor Day.

Scrap Exchange

Duke University

A true Durham original, the Scrap Exchange has promoted creativity through reuse since 1991. One building is like a traditional thrift store, with books, furniture, clothing, and home goods, while the other has barrels full of empty film canisters, bolts of deadstock fabric, and bins of mysterious plumbing supplies someone might incorporate into a sculpture or a Halloween costume. An Artist Marketplace sells pieces of art made from traditional and nontraditional materials, and regular workshops allow guests to make and take art home.

Seaport Summer Market

Seaport

Local businesses, including those owned by women and minorities, make up the vendors at this annual outdoor vendor market. Housewares and pottery, jewelry and clothing, artwork, cosmetics, and pet goods are among the unique wares to browse. Bring the kids because this market is quite family friendly with a DJ and games, Children's Museum programming, and lots of food.

Seaport Village

If you're looking for trinkets and souvenirs, this is the place. This complex of kitschy shops and waterfront restaurants has upped its hip factor with boutiques like San Pasqual wine bar and bamboo clothing–maker Cariloha. While there, keep an eye out for Urban Girl Accessories to find an eclectic mix of clothing and gifts from name brands and local artisans, and stop by Village Hat Shop to browse their collection of 50,000 fedoras, bowlers, cowboy, and custom-embroidered hats. In addition to shopping, the village has views of the bay, fresh breezes, and great strolling paths. A hand-carved historic carousel and frequent public entertainment are among the attractions. Seaside Inverted

The concept is simple, silly, and fun: you and a group of friends (kids love this place) show up and pose for pictures—the staff will help you bring out your inner goofiness—in each of the eight themed upside-down scenes, and you leave with a bunch of frameable mementos. The inverted vignettes include a saloon, a kitchen, and a Seaside's own promenade.

Seattle Antiques Market

For antiques lovers, this market should not be missed. A funky warehouse offering everything from modern furniture to gemstones and bicycles, there is an unmistakable charm that keeps Seattleites coming back. Parking is tricky, so if you are already shopping in Pike Place Market, we recommend soaking up the fresh salty breeze and walking to this hidden gem.

Seattle Best Tea

International District

If you haven't been introduced to the wonders of Asian tea, you need to make a trip here, where the experience is as enriching as the tea itself. Helpful staff will walk you through the selection of oolong, pouchong, jasmine, and green teas. All the teas are available to try, and you can pick up a cute teapot while you're at it. They also offer bubble tea and ice cream (in tea flavors, of course).

Seaweed Co.

South Portland

With a knowledgeable crew of "budtenders," Seaweed Co.'s flagship location is unusually spacious, with plenty of room to gather with fellow enthusiasts or the staff and learn more about the products that range from flower to sleep aids and edibles to tinctures.
