Reddz Trading

Georgetown Fodor's Choice
You can't miss the bright red storefront of this consignment shop, which sells clothing, accessories, jewelry, and shoes. Unlike traditional consignment stores, Reddz buys its merchandise for cash or trade so inventory is added regularly. It's not uncommon to find pieces with the price tags still attached.

American Rag Cie

West Hollywood

Half the store features new clothing from established and emerging labels, while the other side is stocked with well-preserved vintage clothing organized by color and style. They even have a denim bar filled with apparel for men and women. You'll also find plenty of shoes and accessories being picked over by the hippest of Angelenos.

Downtown

The local outpost of a national chain is a thrift store must-stop for the terminally hip. The store's extensive collection of trendy vintage and used clothing at reasonable prices makes for satisfying shopping. You also can find great recycled discards and, since we all could use the help, get lots of suggestions from the staff.

Cloak & Dagger

East Village

The racks of this pint-size shop are hung with trendy pieces from cult-favorite women's wear designers like Samantha Pleet and Sessùn, as well as accessories from the likes of A Peace Treaty and Illesteva, all hand-picked by owner and designer Brookelynn Starnes.

Little Five Points

The Clothing Warehouse is one of the many colorful vintage-clothing stores in Little Five Points.

Crossroads Trading Co.

University District

Crossroads Trading Co. carries dependably cute and trendy used clothes, bags, and accessories. Their buyers screen each item, so you won't be stuck poring over a rack of stained T-shirts. It's all clean, bright, and fun.

Dovetail

Vintage and handmade pieces that run the gamut from kitschy to avant garde make this store feel nostalgic and timeless at once. Owner Julie Ghatan scours estate sales and flea markets to salvage those perfect items worth an (often modest) investment. The jewelry is the main draw, but clothing, accessories, and barware are equally noteworthy.

Scrap Exchange

Duke University

A true Durham original, the Scrap Exchange has promoted creativity through reuse since 1991. One building is like a traditional thrift store, with books, furniture, clothing, and home goods, while the other has barrels full of empty film canisters, bolts of deadstock fabric, and bins of mysterious plumbing supplies someone might incorporate into a sculpture or a Halloween costume. An Artist Marketplace sells pieces of art made from traditional and nontraditional materials, and regular workshops allow guests to make and take art home.

The Shelter Options Shoppe

Naples's ladies who lunch often donate their year-old Armani outfits and fine collectibles to this terrific thrift shop whose proceeds benefit the Shelter for Abused Women & Children.

Tokio 7

East Village

Even fashion designers like Alexander Wang have been known to pop in to browse at this high-end consignment store. Racks are loaded with goodies from A-list designers such as Gucci, Stella McCartney, Diane von Furstenberg, and Phillip Lim, and the inventory changes all the time.

Go for posters, vintage costume jewelry, bric-a-brac, and even used computer and stereo components. The selection is in a state of constant flux, and, as you'd expect, everything is dirt-cheap.

The Vault Collective

This high-ceilinged, multidealer emporium is a standout in a city known for its vintage boutiques. Walk your wardrobe back in time with colorful finds, from mid-century designer dresses to throwback Patriots merch and rock concert tees.
