In the same building as the Ghost Light Inn, this sophisticated 120-seat modern American restaurant helmed by Keith Bernstein has expansive Delaware River views from its indoor and outdoor seating, enhancing the relaxed charm of the sleek, high-ceilinged space with wood-topped tables, a fireplace, and a bar. It's a stunning setting for seasonal menus that use the best ingredients from local farms and artisan producers in dishes such as wild mushroom dumplings and roasted local chicken with white miso and sake glaze. The honey cheesecake mousse is one of a short list of indulgent desserts, and the wine list is well curated and intriguing.

Stella Pastry & Cafe

$

For a quarter so rich in Italian history, North Beach sadly lacks authentic Italian dolce (sweet) offerings; indeed, this lone sweets bakery is it. Stella has been around since 1942 and has since changed hands from the original owners but still sticks to offering an array of Italian-American-style biscotti, tiramisu, and cannoli with creamy, cloyingly sweet predilections. The bakery stays open delightfully late.

Stellina Pizzeria

$$ | Downtown

For those craving authentic Italian pizza, head to Stellina Pizzeria. The latest outpost of this locally owned company is the work of native Italians Antonio Matarazzo and chef Matteo Venini. Start your meal with Italian starters like arancini (fried rice balls) and fried artichokes. The pizzas based on Italian classics such as cacio e pepe and amatriciana are always in demand. Try to grab a seat at the lively bar for more intimate service and a closer look at the bar and kitchen.

Stephanie's on Newbury

$$ | Back Bay

Here's comfort food at its best—sophisticated enough for adults (lobster potpie), yet simple enough for kids (burgers and pasta). The attractive indoor space has plenty of booths for spreading out in, and the great patio is a lively spot in summer. It's the perfect people-watching perch as you dine on dishes such as decadent three-cheese macaroni (you can add lobster), Stephi's signature burger, and the huge lunchtime Back Bay chopped salad.

Stikine Inn Restaurant

$$$

With views overlooking the water, the Stikine Inn's restaurant (often called the Stik) is easily the prettiest place to dine in Wrangell. Given the town's scarcity of options, the place could just assemble a get-by menu, but the salads, pasta, burgers, and hearty soups here are seriously tasty. For lighter early-morning or midday fare, there's the Stik Cafe, which serves breakfast sandwiches and panini, among other items.

Stillwaters Tavern

$$$

Equal parts happy-hour spot and go-to dinner locale, this trendy Beach Drive restaurant—from the folks behind Bella Brava—has something for everyone. Its take on fish-and-chips gets cheers, as do the falafel (served on a bed of hummus) and most of the menu's other diverse, often locally sourced options. Tile floors and dark-wood furnishings give this place a smart, vintage feel, and you can sit at a table (recommended if it's evening, and there are more than two of you) or belly up to the bar for a quick bite and a drink selected from the imaginative cocktail list, the craft beers on tap, or the lengthy wine menu. Outdoor seating puts you amid all the sights and sounds of the strip.

Stinson Beach Breakers Cafe

$$

Hard to miss along the tiny stretch of Main Street, this café is an easy destination for a pre-beach sandwich or post-surf bar bites and cocktails on the heated patio in the afternoon. Beach-cottage hardwood floors and a wood stove add to the warmth of the rustic seaside interior, while a mountain view and firepit enhance the deck.

Stock + Grain Assembly Food Hall

$

The Triad's first food hall, Stock + Grain is next to Truist Point ballpark (home to the High Point Rockers pro baseball and Carolina Core FC soccer) and close to downtown showrooms, so it can be as busy or as quiet as the town of High Point. Expect to find vendors of burgers, pizza, sushi, barbecue, and coffee, plus a few wild cards. Order a beer from the 20 taps at Bevelry or a craft cocktail at Cahoots.

Stoney's Seafood House

Popular with boaters who tie right up to the dock, this restaurant overlooking Island Creek has one dining room that actually juts out over the water and another on higher ground with great views from its floor-to-ceiling windows. There's also ample seating—and a tiki bar—outside. Stoney's hefty crab cakes are made with plenty of back-fin meat and little filler. Oyster sandwiches and Stoney's Steamer—handpicked selections of fresh seafood—are also good choices. The intense, house-made desserts, such as the strawberry shortcake and Kim's key lime pie, are not for the faint of heart. If you miss Stoney's in Broomes Island, there are two other locations in Solomons Island.
