Why We Like It

From the hotel rooftop to the restaurants on the hotel’s doorstep, this property offers the chance to rub elbows with New Yorkers. We love the skyline views, the convenient lobby café for morning bagels, and a dedication to bringing the art of the Lower East Side indoors. A rooftop pool and terrace make this a particularly appealing pick during the warmer months.

Fodor's Expert Review

Smack in the center of a dynamic residential neighborhood, this hotel offers a fantastic launching pad for restaurants, nightlife, and people watching. The Lower East Side’s artistic spirit is honored with the hotel’s emphasis on art in both the public spaces and the rooms. City skyline views are a highlight, especially from the 14th floor lobby and the 15th floor rooftop pool and bar spread across a 5,000-square-foot terrace.

You Should Know The 15th floor rooftop bar Mr. Purple is a popular nightlife destination and security at the hotel door can be tight; keep your room key handy to ensure easy entry.

Room

As is common in this part of lower Manhattan, rooms are on the small side (starting at 300 square feet) but have nice hard wood floors, large windows, and work desks. Residential-style rooms have conveniences like coffeemakers and minibars stocked with locally sourced food and drinks, but air-conditioning can be noisy.

Tip This hotel is a high rise building in a low-rise neighborhood; request a room with a higher floor for views over the rooftops.

Bathroom

Sleek bathrooms have white subway tile, glass-enclosed showers with a rainforest showerhead, and ample mirrors. A marble topped vanity has open storage beneath and bathrooms are stocked with C.O. Bigelow products.

Lobby

The 14th floor lobby has floor to ceiling windows and a custom mural by renowned street artist Lee Quinones. The large space also has rotating art installations, several clusters of plush couches and chairs, and a work space with easy access to plugging in electronics (plus a business center with 3 computers for guest use). The lobby bar and café offers drinks and snacks.

Pool

The outdoor plunge pool shares a 5,000-square-foot terrace with a bar and lounge area that is very popular on summer evenings. The city skyline provides a dynamite backdrop for a swim.

Dining

Culinary icons from the Lower East Side are featured on the hotel menus, including products from nearby Russ & Daughters and Il Laboratorio del Gelato. The lobby bar and café offers affordable breakfasts (like the classic everything bagel and cream cheese) plus snacks, meals, and drinks including beer and wine.

Drinking

While food is served at the 15th floor Mr. Purple, it’s more of a buzzing bar than a place to go for a quiet meal. Open as late as 4am, it is an indoor/outdoor space with two bars and lots of space to mingle and lounge, including poolside.
