Fodor’s Expert Review
The lines at lunch attest to the status of this Downtown eatery that's been family operated since 1953 and that serves some of the most flavorful New Mexican food, and margaritas, around. The rambling, low-doored, and atmospheric adobe dating from 1692 is decorated with folk art, and service is downright neighborly. Even if you're a devoted green-chile sauce fan, consider trying the locally grown red chile the place is famous for; it is rich and perfectly spicy. Specialties include red-chile enchiladas, green-chile stew with potatoes and pork, and their charbroiled Shedburgers. The mushroom bisque is a milder and delicious starter. Homemade desserts, like the mocha cake, are a yummy way to smooth out the spice.
