Slovakian transplant Annamaria O’Brien opened this bustling bakery and brunch spot with whitewashed beamed ceilings, tile floors, and angular polished-wood tables in 2017, and her menu borrows a bit from Eastern Europe but also features regional U.S. dishes, like cornmeal waffles with buttermilk fried chicken and ham-mushroom omelets with red or green chile. The quiche of the day is always delicious. After your meal, be sure to peruse the goodies in the bakery case—treats like lemon-cream tarts, apple poppy strudel, and tvaroh (a ricotta-like fresh cheese) pastries await, best accompanied by a macchiato or Mexican mocha.
