Palapa Bar and Grill

Bring your swimsuit and dunk into the sea (inner tubes are at the ready) at this end-of-pier San Pedro favorite. The thatched roof and its saltwater backdrop are what draw crowds (although the pulled pork and ceviche aren't bad for bar food). After dark, the colorful lighting lends a festive air. Palapa Bar doesn't rock all night, though—it usually closes around 9, 10 at the latest.

Sip n Dip Beach Bar

The new, less hip, less loud competitor of Lazy Lizard, Sip n Dip is a great place to kick it with your feet in the water, drink in hand. The swimming here is not as good or deep as at the Lizard, but you're a stone's throw from that area. It's more family-friendly, with a playground and a little upcycled waterslide into the sea. There's a basic lunch menu but it's only open until 6 pm, so it's a good spot to beat the daytime heat.
