Medeltidsveckan
Medieval Week, celebrated in early August, is a citywide festival celebrating Visby’s rich medieval heritage and marking the invasion of Gotland by the Danish king Valdemar Atterdag in 1361. Celebrations begin with a parade and continue with battle reenactments, jousts, an open-air market, live music, and street-theater performances re-creating the period, a highlight being the grand entrance of King Valdemar following his defeat of Visby’s defenders outside the city walls. If you plan to visit Gotland during this time, book early, since hotels fill up well in advance.
