Fodor's Expert Review Botafumeiro
On Gràcia's main thoroughfare, Barcelona's best-known Galician restaurant has maritime motifs, snowy tablecloths, wood paneling, and fleets of waiters in spotless white outfits steering diners toward the more expensive end of the menu. The bank-breaking mariscada Botafumeiro is a seafood medley from shellfish to fin fish to cuttlefish to caviar. An assortment of media ración (half-ration) selections is available at the bar, where pulpo a feira (squid on slices of potato), jamón ibérico de bellota (acorn-fed Iberian ham), and pan con tomate (toasted bread topped with olive oil and tomato) make slightly cheaper late-night snacks. The quality of Botafumeiro's seafood is beyond reproach but be prepared for a whale-size check.
