4 Best Hotels in Krakow, Poland

Background Illustration for Hotels

To experience and enjoy Kraków to the fullest, you should try to stay in the Old Town, which will put you within walking distance of major attractions, cafés, and restaurants. The downside, of course, is that the best places to stay are rather expensive, and the streets surrounding the Market Square can be noisy at night. If you do not mind paying the price, try to find a room in one of the hotels next to the Planty Park, or facing the hotel's inner courtyard. Cheaper options tend to have a little less character and are farther away from the center.

Hilton Garden Inn Kraków

$$ | Marii Konopnickiej 33, Kraków, 30-302, Poland
This fairly new addition to Kraków's hotel scene opened in 2014 in a neighborhood just outside of Old Town, but within a short walk. Indeed, the Hilton's location is rather strategic: next to the river with its walking paths and a summer beach, and mere steps from the ICE—Kraków's convention and entertainment center, which stages many classical and popular concerts. The hotel is well-managed, and it has been collecting good reviews. It has two restaurants, an excellent bar, and its own (small) 24-hour convenience store.

Pros

  • Reliable Hilton quality
  • Strategic location
  • No-smoking hotel

Cons

  • Busy street nearby
  • Rooms are nice but without any local character
  • Quieter rooms have no views

Hotel Polski Pod Białym Orłem

$$ | ul. Pijarska 17, Kraków, 31–015, Poland

Located within the medieval city walls—opposite the open-air art gallery by the Floriańska gate, "Under the White Eagle" is simple and unpretentious. An inn of the same name existed here in the 18th century; today the hotel is again the property of the Czartoryskis, the same family who founded the famous museum next door. It remains among the more affordable accommodations options within the Old Town. Throughout are reproduction antiques, color schemes that rival those seen in a box of old-fashioned bonbons, rich parquet floors, and plenty of fresh flowers.

Pros

  • Great location
  • Lots of history
  • Feels like you really are in Europe

Cons

  • Suites are plush, but standard rooms are pretty basic
  • Street noise can be a problem

Maltański Hotel

$$ | ul. Straszewskiego 14, Kraków, 31–101, Poland

This is a pleasant and quiet hotel on the west side of the Planty, a member of the same chain as Gródek but several years its senior. Also, it comes at a noticeably lower price point. Once part of the Potocki family mansion, the building was confiscated after the war by Communist authorities. After the building was returned to its owners in 1990, it was restored and turned into a hotel.

Pros

  • Friendly staff keeps thing homey
  • Great breakfast
  • Some street noise in front-facing rooms

Cons

  • No restaurant
  • Very small lobby and common areas
  • No elevator
