Pjazza Teatru Rjal

Originally built in 1861, Valletta's Royal Opera House was one of many victims when the bombs started falling during World War II. All but destroyed in 1942, it lay derelict for decades and was the source of much national debate until it was finally renovated by the architect Renzo Piano and reopened 2013 as an open-air theater, much of the original building that survived still kept intact. Concerts and the city's annual film festival (June) light up a packed schedule.
