Marsaxlokk

Malta's main fishing fleet bobs on the water in the wide sheltered bay. The unique colorful fishing boats (luzzu), with their vertical prow and protective "eye of Osiris" symbol, are descendents of Phoenician craft that plied these waters in ancient times. Most afternoons you'll find the fishermen and their families mending nets and preparing for the next sailing. Old honey-colored stone cottages once lived in by these families line the waterfront, though many have now been converted to seafood restaurants and bars. There's a craft market each morning along the waterfront promenade. Sunday hosts a traditional fish market alongside the craft stalls.
