31 Best Hotels in The Peloponnese, Greece

Background Illustration for Hotels

Hotels in Nafplion, Sparta, and other large towns and cities tend to be open year-round. Monemvasia is a year-round getaway and hotels stay open there as well. In beach resorts, such as the Mani villages, and in Olympia, many hotels close in late October and reopen in late March or early April. In Nafplion, many old houses have been converted to pleasant small hotels and do a brisk weekend business as a getaway for Athenians, and here you'll also be likely to find the region's more luxurious and expensive lodgings. Overall, though, lodging is a good value in the Peloponnese, and even in high season you can usually manage to find a clean and pleasant room for two, with breakfast, for less than €100.

Aetoma

$ | Spiridomas Sq., Nafplion, 21100, Greece Fodor's Choice

A 19th-century neoclassical mansion on a quiet square has been delightfully transformed into a petite family-run B&B with extremely comfortable guest rooms and alluring public spaces. The top-floor room with the large terrace is one of the nicest accommodations in town.

Pros

  • Friendly, attentive service
  • Each room has a balcony
  • Excellent breakfast

Cons

  • Stairs may pose an obstacle for some travelers
  • Parking is limited but free spots available nearby
  • Not all rooms have views

Citta dei Nicliani

$ | Kitta, 230 71, Greece Fodor's Choice

Kitta was once home to the most powerful clan in the Mani, and relics of its past scatter the horizon. This 17th-century tower-house makes ingenious use of its space. Immaculate stone duplexes and flats are whittled into the interior, and an original cistern has been converted into a cunning plunge pool. Spectacular views from the upper floor reveal a sea of bushy olive trees punctured only by lonely towers. History is everywhere, and the oldest parts of the building date from the 10th century. During the Second World War it was transformed into a German officer's barracks; following that the militant left-wing Greek People's Liberation Army took over. It was abandoned until 2011, whereupon the current owners took over, taking five long years to complete the conversion. It was worth the wait. Today it's gastronomic reputation takes center stage, with a wine cellar claimed to be among the finest in Greece. Rustic meals and a sumptuous breakfast served in the garden terrace complete a unique stay.

Pros

  • A historic setting in an atmospheric town
  • Excellent wine and food
  • Incredible value for a luxury boutique

Cons

  • You need a car to get here and around
  • There's not much nearby within walking distance
  • Rooms can be a little dark

Hotel Latini

$ | Othonos 47, Nafplion, 21100, Greece Fodor's Choice

This handsomely restored old house, just off the waterfront in the center of town, feels like a well-appointed private home, and the extremely comfortable guest rooms are graciously appointed and have sparkling bathrooms; all have views of the bay or a palm-filled square. The top-floor suite is especially spacious, with sloping ceilings and two balconies. A light breakfast with homemade cakes is served in a pleasant bar-café that opens onto a narrow lane of the Old Town; drinks are served here throughout the evening.

Kalavrita Canyon Hotel & Spa

$ | Ethnikis Antistaseos and Skaltsa, Kalavrita, 25001, Greece Fodor's Choice

There's something of a business hotel vibe at this unexpectedly slick stay in Kalavryta, but that's no detraction from what is an accomplished stay—efficient, friendly staff and good facilities, including a seasonal spa (November through April) with its own steam room, makes this spot a safe bet. There's even a small outdoor pool open in the summer months (May through September), which is a rarity in the cooler mountain areas.

Pros

  • The spa is one of the best in town
  • Undergound parking
  • The hotel bar is a nice spot

Cons

  • Can get very busy in the winter skiing season
  • One of Kalavryta's pricier locations
  • A popular stay for families, so can be noisy

Amymone Suites

$ | Othonos 18, Nafplion, 21100, Greece

Amymone and Adiandi guesthouses (owned by the same family) have long been popular stays among the boutique-heavy B&Bs of Othonos Street. Set in centuries-old buildings, their oak wood floors, stylish mural headboards, and all-round design offer a welcome dose of style as opposed to their fustier rivals in the city. The newer Amymone Suites has similar design elements running through its veins, except the rooms are larger. It's still good value, however, and its fine breakfasts are held nearby in the excellent Wild Duck restaurant and bar, on the quayside.

Pros

  • Bespoke suites with unique designs
  • Superb breakfasts in the Wild Duck restaurant
  • Quayside location and sea views

Cons

  • One of the more costly guesthouses
  • The quayside can get very busy
  • Some rooms might not be to your taste

Bacchus Pension

$ | Arhaia Pissa 10, Ancient Pissa (Mirika), 27065, Greece

One of the region's most popular eateries also provides attractive and character-filled guest rooms, all with balconies overlooking the countryside. These very comfortable accommodations, along with a relaxing swimming pool, allow guests to enjoy a country retreat while visiting the ruins, just 3 km (2 miles) away. Family rooms come with a Jacuzzi and can host up to four, making this a great bet for families traveling in the region. Its restaurant is particularly feted, and the poolside terrace is a lovely place to spend an afternoon or evening, though locals don't typically start arriving until 10 pm or so for dishes that include delicious grilled lamb and farm-fresh vegetables.

Pros

  • Great restaurant
  • Beautiful pool and terrace area
  • Pleasant, attractive rooms

Cons

  • Outside town, although just a short drive to ancient site
  • Rooms vary in size

Byron Hotel

$ | Platonos 16, Nafplion, 21100, Greece

A great deal of charm prevails in these simple but tastefully decorated rooms—the building used to be a Russian Embassy during Nafplion's brief stint as a capital. Turkish carpets, dark woods, and the odd sloping, beamed ceiling set a dignified tone, with the large family rooms particularly impressive. The location at the top of the Old Town, up the street from the church of Agiou Spiridona, means that many rooms have views of the hilltop fortress but this also necessitates plenty of steps to climb. Great value for the views.

Pros

  • Old-fashioned atmosphere
  • Lovely patio
  • Tucked away in the heart of Old Town

Cons

  • Some rooms are cramped
  • Outlooks from some rooms are limited
  • Lots of stairs could be a real hardship for guests with mobility issues

Byzantino

$ | Monemvasia, 23070, Greece

Like many stays in Monemvasia, Byzantino spreads itself liberally across a half-dozen stone buildings in the Old Town. All are different and full of character, typically embellished with stone- and tile work and other distinctive decorations; some are multilevel. Less expensive rooms do not have terraces or sea views, but still retain the charm that pervades this old city. Bathrooms in most units are fitted into medieval recesses and are quite small. Breakfast at the hotel's café, near the main square, costs extra.

Pros

  • Character-filled accommodation in medieval houses
  • Some units have nice terraces and sea views
  • Warm hospitality and great breakfasts

Cons

  • Steep streets and stairs to reach some rooms
  • Ask about accessibility when booking
  • Rooms vary greatly, so ask to see a few if available
  • Noise from nearby bars in some rooms

Pros

Days City Suites

$ | Agiou Andreou 140, Patras, Greece

As discreet a stay as you can imagine—the busy road setting isn't all that pretty, but inside is the most relentlessly stylish stay in the city. An internal courtyard is wrapped by a series of flats that have been divided up into huge rooms. Suites come with a lounge, fold-out bed, and two balconies. Only a couple of rooms have sea views, but the city view is compensation enough with building-length murals decorating the skyline. Staff are well-drilled and always keen to help.

Pros

  • It's one of the most slickly designed stays in the area at a great price
  • Breakfast is a delight and you're a short walk from a lot of good restaurants
  • Lifts for disabled access

Cons

  • No parking
  • Try to get one of the higher floors—those lower down have poor views
  • The surrounding area isn't that appealing

Filoxenia Hotel & Spa

$ | Ethnikis Antistaseos 10, Kalavrita, 25001, Greece

Like most other stays in Kalavryta, trade here picks up in the winter as Greeks descend on the town and it's wise to book ahead—this hotel is open year-round, however, as is its spa, which is a nice treat given a lot of the facilities in town shut down in the summer. Rooms are cozy affairs with fluffy rugs that speak to the colder months and balconies for summer.

Pros

  • Spa is open year-round and includes a sauna and hammam
  • Disabled access to rooms
  • Good breakfasts

Cons

  • The winter months book up quickly
  • Can be a bit noisy

Hotel Europa

$ | Oikismou Drouba, Olympia, 27065, Greece

The hotels that cluster the slopes above Olympia have the best views in town, sweeping out over the hillsides. Neat, recently renovated rooms with balconies mostly cluster around the internal olive-shaded garden that wraps a large pool. In summertime, the outdoor taverna (May through September) is a good choice for an alfresco meal on a warm night, though the Greek fare in the handsome, year-round indoor restaurant is excellent. An on-site shop even sells the hotel's own olive oil.

Pros

  • Attractive, well-maintained rooms
  • Fine restaurants
  • Beautiful pool and garden

Cons

  • Slightly out of town center and can only be reached easily by car
  • Can seem a bit anonymous

Hotel Pelops

$ | Varela 2, Olympia, 27065, Greece

Suzanna and Theo Spiliopoulou set the gold standard for small hotels, providing comfortable rooms that have wooden floors, small terraces, and splashes of artwork by the owner's painter mother. Among the various delights here, Suzanna, an accomplished chef, teaches cooking lessons and serves up a Peloponnesian feast (booking required), a treat not to be missed. A welcoming breakfast room is warmed by a large fireplace in cooler months, and the hospitality extends to dispensing information about Ancient Olympia and other locations in the Peloponnese.

Pros

Liakoto

$ | Next to the Kardamyli quayside, Kardamyli, 24022, Greece
One of a pair of charming, family-run waterside stays (sister hotel Aniska is just a short stroll away), this largely self-catering stay puts the coast on your doorstep. The larger apartments come with arched balconies for incredible views. You can order breakfast (not included) to your room, which is best taken on the pretty terrace of neighboring Aniska, but apartments also come with well-equipped kitchenettes, so most visitors make their own. Liakoto's excellent pool and older clientele make this a likeably quiet affair. The friendly owners also helpfully erect ladders on the quayside in summer, to make getting in and out of the sea less treacherous.

Pros

  • Easy access to the water and a host of fine local eateries
  • Great pool area and free parking
  • Well-equipped kitchenette and complementary bottle of wine on arrival

Cons

  • No restaurant

Liberty of Nafplio

$ | Vas. Georgiou B2, Nafplion, 21100, Greece

It might seem counterintuitive to swap a stay in the old city for the less attractive new town on its fringes, but the newly opened Liberty has an ace up its sleeve---it has the best views in the city from its rooftop (the only one in Nafplion), where over breakfast you'll gaze out over to the ancient ramparts of the Palamidi, Acronafplia, or down to the coast as you fill your belly. Aside from that, it's a thoroughly modern stay with lifts, disabled access to all floors, street parking and balconies in every room. Plus, it's only a short walk to the old town.

Pros

  • Great mattresses
  • All the modern accoutrements of a new-build hotel
  • There's a daily brunch on the rooftop (except June/July) and a restaurant

Cons

  • No one is pretending the street outside is as charming as the old town
  • The parking isn't private, but at least it's nearby
  • There's a five-minute walk to the old city

Moxy Patra Marina

$ | 58 Iroon Polytechniou Ave. and Kiprou St., Patras, 26441, Greece

There is a strand of hotel that has embraced the "aren't we having fun" vibe, and Moxy fits squarely in that bracket. But beyond the relentless branding—Polaroid prints of young somethings indulging themselves decorate lifts and walls alike—this is easily one of the city's most accomplished stays. It's also really good value for what you get: great pool, small gym, views out over the twinkling waters of the marina, and all within easy walking distance of the bus or ferry terminals. Nestled amid one of the most likable streets in the old town, this estimable pension has charm to spare. High-ceilinged rooms make the most of its 19th-century neoclassical townhouse setting, with some accommodating up to four people—a rarity in the city's pensions. $ | Ilia Potamianou 9, Nafplion, 21100, Greece

The 200-year-old property seems to be on top of the world, tucked away at the very summit of the Old Town, just below the Acronafplia. From here its breezy balconies and gardens gaze out to the sea. It's been in the Zoltas family for over 40 years, and one of the brothers is always on hand to extend familial hospitality that extends to fresh-squeezed juice from the family orchards and homemade cakes and jams. Its Loft bar and restaurant has fantastic views come sunset and a fine reputation for its cooking. Rooms have been recently renovated, and what it lacks in a pool it more than makes up for in having the sea on its doorstep.

$ | Areopoli, 23062, Greece

In this beautiful, traditionally styled house just off the Aeropolis main square, large, stone-floored, stone-walled, wood-ceilinged rooms combine distinctive, traditional ambience with modern comforts. They open off communal terraces and overlook a small garden—it's either there or in the lounge that the excellent buffet breakfast is served.

Pros

  • Lovely terraces and a garden
  • Pleasant decor
  • Stylish and comfortable base for visiting the Mani

Cons

  • Limited service
  • A distance from a beach
  • No elevator
