Beer, just outside Seaton, was once a favorite smugglers' haunt, and the fishing village has remained fairly unchanged. It was the source of the white stone used for numerous Devon churches, Exeter Cathedral, and, farther afield, Winchester Cathedral, Westminster Abbey, and the Tower of London.
