3 Best Hotels in Tortola, British Virgin Islands

Background Illustration for Hotels

Luxury on Tortola is more about a certain state of mind—serenity, seclusion, gentility, and a bit of Britain in the Caribbean—than about state-of-the-art amenities and fabulous facilities. Some properties, especially the vacation villas, are catching up with current trends, but others seem stuck in the 1980s. But don't let a bit of rust on the screen door or a chip in the paint on the balcony railing mar your appreciation of the ambience. You will likely spend most of your time outside, so the location, size, or price of a hotel should be more of a deciding factor than the decor.

A stay at any one of the hotels and guesthouses on Tortola's north side will put you closer to the beach, but not to worry: it doesn't take that long to get from one side of the island to the other. Visitors who want to be closer to Road Town's restaurants and shops can find a handful of places in and around the island's main town.

Quito's Luxury Inn

$$$$ | Cane Garden Bay, British Virgin Islands

The tireless Quito Rymer, one of the island's most popular musicians, opened this high-rise hotel in 2019 across the street from the beach and his eponymous restaurant-bar (where he still performs). If you don't mind strolling a short distance to the beach, want to eat in the nearby casual restaurants, and enjoy mixing and mingling with the locals at the village's numerous bars, this is a good choice. All 21 rooms are named after Quito's songs, and there's a pool and spa on property.

Pros

  • Near bars and restaurants
  • Pool and spa on-site
  • Good restaurant
