Tony Macaroni's Conch Experience

$ Fodor's Choice

For a taste of the local beach scene, follow the music to this weathered, thatch-roof shack at Taino Beach and get your fill of mouthwatering roast conch, the specialty of the "house." Operated by local personality Anthony "Tony Macaroni" Hanna, the popular eatery also sells conch salad, roast lobster and shrimp, and Gully Wash cocktails (fresh coconut water, sweetened condensed milk, a healthy dose of gin, and a sprinkle of nutmeg) for noshing alfresco on a stilted deck overlooking pristine sands and sea.

Treasure Sands Club

$$$ Fodor's Choice
Be sure to make a reservation for a Friday or Saturday night dinner especially during the season, as this restaurant just outside the entrance to the Treasure Cay Resort town draws locals and snowbirds from all over the Abacos. If it's not too cool, the restaurant will be converted to an open-air space, and you're right on the world-famous Treasure Cay beach. A large pool surrounded by lounge chairs and a sound system give this spot a very South Beach vibe. For lunch, enjoy the Asian cracked conch or fish tacos. For dinner, select from the pastas, seafood, duck, lamb, short ribs, or steak Diane. Finish it up with one of the decadent desserts.

Tropic Breeze Beach Bar & Grill

$$ Fodor's Choice

With an outdoor dining area that wraps around the restaurant so you can enjoy the tropical sea breeze and views of the Caribbean Sea, this is one of the most tranquil restaurants in Little Exuma. Chef Khriston, a Le Cordon Bleu graduate, prepares the best and most popular Caribbean dishes — be sure to try the Jerk Wings with a cold beer.

Viola's Bar & Grill

$$ Fodor's Choice

This unassuming bar and grill is a consistent Paradise Island favorite with locals and savvy visitors. Their menu is a simple but tasty mix of standard American basics like burgers, pizza, sandwiches, and salads as well as Bahamian classics like curry chicken and conch fritters. Breakfast is strictly American style. The small al fresco bar and restaurant can get quite lively on weekends when the nightly karaoke gives way to professional live music.

Wally's

$$ Fodor's Choice

This two-story, pink colonial villa sits across Bay Street from the marina, fronted by green lawns, hibiscus, and white-railed verandahs. This is Marsh Harbour's most popular restaurant—the place to go for good food, potent rum cocktails, and serious people-watching. Lunch is a scene, especially if you sit outside, where you'll find a mix of locals, tourists, and boaters enjoying Greek or Caesar salads, spicy grouper, and mahimahi burgers. Inside there's a stylish bar where you can enjoy cocktails or a meal, a small boutique, and three dining rooms, all adorned with Haitian paintings. Dinner is served every night except Sunday and the menu includes creamy curried shrimp, mahimahi Provençal, or a filet mignon smothered in a mushroom sauce, as well as a daily sashimi. Save room for the irresistible key lime pie or Bahamian bread pudding with coconut and raisins, drenched in a brandy sauce.

Wild Orchids Waterfront Restaurant

$$$ Fodor's Choice

With a menu of delicious Bahamian and American dishes along with stunning views of the ocean, Wild Orchids Waterfront Restaurant provides one of the best dining experiences in Rock Sound. The restaurant is a restored beach house that's more than a century old, and its interior has a traditional Bahamian design that's comforting and familiar.

$$$ Fodor's Choice

Dine inside or on the wraparound porches of a two-story traditional wooden Bahamian home. The menu is small, but there are lots of classic dishes to choose from, including golden beet and tomato salad with feta and goat cheese, or the loaded grilled short-rib grilled cheese sandwich. Enjoy a fancy cocktail or a bottle of French wine from an impressive drinks menu, and finish up with the white chocolate guava bread pudding or Bahamian chocolate rum cake.

Wreckers Restaurant & Bar

$$$$ Fodor's Choice

The scenic views over the harbor, great service, and variety of flavorful Bahamian meals make Wreckers a culinary delight. Choose from the menu of local Bahamian dishes or the specialty flatbread pizzas. The lower level features an open-air dining area that sits on the dock, while the upper level has a huge bar and flat-screen TVs for entertainment. Wreckers is also the only place on the island where you can get Starbucks coffee.

The Wrecking Tree

$ Fodor's Choice

The wooden deck at this casual restaurant was built around the wrecking tree, a place where 19th-century wrecking vessels brought their salvage. Today it's a cool place to linger over a cold Kalik and a hearty lunch of some of the best cracked conch you'll find anywhere, fish-and-chips, or zesty conch salad.

Zen Asian Fusion

$$ Fodor's Choice

There's an array of tasty Chinese dishes on one side of the menu and an extensive selection of sushi on the other at Zen Asian Fusion. This is the only spot on the island where you can get Peking duck without placing an order the day before. Other popular items include the Asian-style conch, their fancy seaweed salad, and the Zen sizzling steak that smells so incredible everyone turns to look when it shows up.

Anthony's

$$

This lively, casual spot is one of the most affordable places for breakfast, lunch, or dinner this side of Nassau Harbour, but that doesn't mean it's cheap. The baby back ribs with a homemade barbecue sauce are among the most popular on this Bahamian and American fare menu. The extensive menu (60-plus items to choose from) includes seafood pasta, grouper and salmon, steaks, burgers, ribs, and salads.

Beach House Restaurant at Cape Santa Maria

$$

Upstairs in the Cape Santa Maria Beach House, guests enjoy sweeping vistas of the turquoise bay during the day and bobbing boat lights in the evening, along with the gentle sounds of the sea. Breakfast can be light with yogurt parfait and a seasonal fruit medley, or a splurge with banana bread French toast topped with caramelized plantains or Bahamian-style eggs Benedict. Sit under a colorful umbrella on the oceanfront deck for lunch with a pizza, wrap, or fancy salad. For dinner, delight in Caribbean coconut shrimp, fresh grouper, or Bahamian lobster tail—just don't miss the chocolate drizzled rum cake! Full bar service is available in the open-air, screened-in oceanfront bar, and a lively happy hour takes place every evening from 5 to 7, with complimentary conch fritters. This is one of the best spots on the island to grab a drink and watch the sunset.

Bishop's Place

$

A longtime favorite of locals and visitors who venture out to Lucayan National Park (about 6 miles away) and into the East End's settlements, Bishop's serves all the fried Bahamian favorites with a view of the sea. The beach bar itself doesn't sell food, so you'll have to make the short walk across the parking lot to order in the restaurant and they will bring it out to you. Conch fritters, cracked conch, fish fingers, burgers, and crab salad are a few of the menu choices, but the food isn't what makes this place special. Bishop himself mans this kick-back beach bar along with his dog, and plays great music that adds to the ambience. Come for a cold drink and stay for the beach.

The Brass Helmet

$$

This relaxing outdoor poolside bar and grill at UNEXSO is great for lunch and weekend brunch, with delicious and creative menu items. Kids and adults alike can splash in the pool (which has underwater windows to the marina, so bring goggles) while adults sip spicy Bloody Marys and tropical drinks. This is a popular evening spot on weekends for relaxing and dancing as local bands are often invited to play.

On the top of Buccaneer Hill overlooking the town and harbor, this mid-19th-century farmhouse is now a must-try restaurant that serves three meals a day. Legendary butcher Dario Cecchini brings his contemporary steak house to Baha Mar with Carna. Then, select from the finest cuts of meat prepared to perfection. They offer every size and cut, including a 50-ounce wood-grilled tomahawk or chateaubriand with king crab legs for two. Cepigel

$$ | Matthew Town

Vegan menus are hard to come by in The Bahamas on the whole, so it is a rare treat to find vegetarian options and a focus on fresh ingredients in Inagua, the most southern island in the archipelago. Cepigel has that covered. This tiny restaurant with a family diner atmosphere takes an artistic approach to their food. That includes their preparation of Bahamian and international staples like grilled steak and fried conch to vegetarian fare and homemade desserts, chocolate chip cookies and coconut tarts included. It's best to arrange your meal ahead of time.

The Christopher's at Club Med

$$$$

The Christopher's open-air restaurant has buffets during breakfast, lunch, and dinner, with the latter changing themes nightly: Caribbean Night has local fare such as conch and fresh fish, and other themes include French, Mexican, and Mediterranean. Carving stations and European pastries and breads are impossible to skip, and simple pastas and pizzas are mainstays for the finicky eater. Don't skip the white-chocolate-chip bread, which is so good you'll order some loaves to bring back with you. If you're not staying at Club Med, a dinner pass will cost you $70 and is good from 7 pm to 1 am, including an open bar and the night's scheduled entertainment. All-you-can-eat breakfast passes are $20 and good from 8 to 10 am; lunch passes are $40 and available from 12:30 to 3 pm.
