I am in the beginning plans of revisiting the Mosel /rhein, but with my husband and another couple . All are interested in wine.

I remember I had found some nice winery estates with lodging but didnīt keep track of them as it was winter, they were mostly closed, and I was travelling on a "girlīs trip" at a more budget conscious level.

Is anyone familiar with a winery guesthouse or two that could prove to be a hgihlight of the trip?

Are you interested in staying specifically at a vintner's working estate, such as in a vacation apartment? And do you know which section of the Mosel you might be interested in? I can give you a couple of ideas, depending on how far down the Mosel you'll be traveling. Will you be visiting Trier?

If you want a romantic place to stay in the middle of a wine town, you might consider the old castle of Zell ("Black Cat" wine town). See www.schlosszell.de/default.htm.

If I understood your post right, you are looking for something really good this time.
IMO the best of the best on Rhine is Schloss Reinhartshausen. Biggest vineyard in Rheingau with some of the best crus in Germany , 5-star Kempinski hotel and gourmet restaurant.

Or stay at Eltville, Erbach or Assmannshausen (for the best red in Germany) and visit different wineries and wine cellars.
I am not so keen about Mosel wine. Therefore no recommodations for this part of your journey.

I know just what you mean! Our computer and the external hard drive both crashed and I lost all my travel bookmarks and references. Bummer. I have reconstructed some links for future travel, and here are a couple of places I'm interested in:

Both typical historic Mosel buildings. Of course, there are many small vintners with lovely new homes where they rent rooms and have wine probes, but most are on a weekly basis, so not sure that's what you had in mind.

A hotel I frequently recommend is very convenient to Burg Eltz and is (despite being a large-appearing hotel) a small, homey place with its own wine cellar. The restaurant is excellent and it sits right on the Mosel: www.hotel-sewenig.de/ Click on "bilder" on the left menu for more photos.

I'm the flip-side of wolfmisc, so don't have any places for the Rhine portion of your tour, other than to always recommend where I most love to stay on my last night in Germany before flying home, with is at Burg Schonburg in Oberwesel.

Although Haus Lipmann no longer have their own winery they are surrounded by them in Beilstein and serve a good range of local wines.

I can't answer your question (because we stayed in rather forgettable hotels on our trip), but I would highly recommend that you buy a copy of Stuart Pigott's book, Touring in Wine Country: The Mosel and Rheingau. It's part of a series edited by Hugh Johnson. The book has recommendations for wineries to visits, as well as hotels and restaurants.

We found that it was better to book appointments in advance with the wineries we wanted to visit, rather than just show up at the door. I would also recommend a visit to Dr Loosen - they make great wine.

We did a tasting tour of the Mosel last year and truly enjoyed it. There are a wide variety of wineries to visit.

For an upscale location, I'd suggest Weinromantikhotel Richtershof in Mulheim -- just south of Bernkastel-Kues. It has a fabulous restaurant with a wide range of Mosel wines - including some older ausleses that were spectacular. There is also a spa and a great lounge to taste local wines. They are located next to Max. Ferdinand Richter. This is location for foodies and wine afficiandos more so than tourists.
